Redness or irritation in my foreskin -- no change after a week

A week ago I noticed some redness on my foreskin, close to the glan's corona. Maybe it's some 2 cm in its longer part. It's not itchy. There are some small bright areas, but the most of it feels as the rest of my skin but red / irritated.

The area of the corona over it seems to be darker than the rest, and there are some small red marks on the glans that I'm attributing to the contact of the "infected" foreskin with it.

In this week I haven't noticed any significative changes to it. Sometimes it seems lighter, but I'm not quite sure about it.

I haven't been the best in regards of cleanliness in that area, so I don't know how long this has been there prior to noticing it. After I discovered it, I'm being more careful washing it with lukewarm water and drying it, and not using soap.

There are no blisters and sores, although there seemed to be a white little spot (not raised) over there.

Also I don't have any other symptoms (such as painful urinating, or any pain whatsoever).

I went to the GP but she doesn't seem to know what it is. She said it might be herpes, but I'm not sexually active.

Googling about it, I realise this can be a number of things, so just wanted to know if you have any idea?

I do have some pictures that I could provide if needed.

If you haven't ever been sexually active, it's not herpes. Even if you have been, it doesn't sound like herpes.

It could be a fungal infection, balanitis, dermatitis, etc. Like you said, it could be a number of things, and it's impossible for us to know. Even if you provided pics, we can't tell you for sure.

I don't know where you are located, but if there are STD clinics open, try there. I don't think it's an STD, but I suggest there because they are usually more familiar with all the causes of genital things than a GP is. If you've never been sexually active, try a dermatologist instead since it could be a skin condition.

Let us know what happens.

Hi! I went to a different GP this morning, and had a completely different experience than with my other doctor. He's assumption is that's a fungal infection. He prescribed a cream to try during 7 days and see what happens. I'd post the name but I can't understand his letter -- and I have yet to go to the pharmacy. Will clarify here when I find out, and also later on after some days using it. In principle he ruled out balanitis and STDs. Thanks @auntiejessi.
I'm glad you got a different response, and I hope the cream helps!

Let us know how you're doing. :)
