Sores in Penis under foreskin

i have noticed sores in my penis shaft near where the glan starts on retracting my foreskin. These are small reddish sores and I have been applying mupirocin since yesterday. There has been no reduction . Initial I had itching in my penis. But now the sores feel slightly stinging when I pull back the foreskin. Is this the right medication. How long will it take.to heal.
