Strange new ropey thing between collar bone and shoulder

I have this strange ropey thing running from my clavicle up through that empty space between the collarbone and shoulder and up to around the back of my neck. It's only on one side and I can't find anyone else with it. It's most visible when I'm sorta shrugging to push it outward. It doesn't hurt and feels kinda thick. I don't feel a pulse from it so I don't think it's a vein or something like that.

I can't remember if it's always been there or if it's new, but I think it's new-- I would've noticed it before. What is that? Is it something I should be worried about or am I just being stupid? Thanks for your help!

There are a few things this can be.  Possibilities include a muscle protruding from having done some recent heavy lifting?, it can be like a hard lump type thing similar to what you are describing. Something called vascular thoracic outlet syndrome which involves arteries or veins under the collar bone become compressed.  You'd likely also have some other things going on with that though. It could be a lipoma.  Could be a bone cyst.  Could be a tumor.  Your best bet is to get this looked at by your physician.  How long have you had it?  (and the most probably cause is a muscle strain and it is swelling from it).  The one other thing is a fracture but you'd have had an injury that you remember if that was the case.
