There are many cause of skin condition vitiligo.  First one and the most important is auto-immunity. Second one is genetics mean inheritance. Third one is Emotional distress and fourth is svere sunburn.

There causes are by http://www.vitiligoguide.com/  here in a video presetation an expert explain that in autoimmunity an anti-body generated in skin destroy skin color producing cells called melanocytes.

In inheritance there is no define rules in this regard. An case study shows that such cases in which  parents have vitiligo not more than 20% of all  cases.

Emotional stress is also a reason of vitiligo. It is the destress which may increase size and number of spots.

Prolong exposure ot sun in extreme sun hours. Sunlight contain highly energetic rays of uv light. uvb and uva are cabable of damaging skin cells and hence cause vitiligo  by demaging melanocytes skin cell.

If you have vitiligo on the penis, there are procedures now with lasers (Xtrac Excimer Laser), which have shown high success rates for repigmentation.  If you are concerned about the issue, I would call your nearest research hospitals in your area to find out what's available. Good luck.

Hi,The cause of vilitigo is not know, but doctors and researchers have several different theories. One theory is that people develop antibodies that destroy the melanocytes in their own bodies.Another theory is that melanocytes destroy themselves.Finaly, some people have reported that a single event such as sunburn oremotional distress triggered vitiligo, however these events have not been prven to cause vitiligo.About 40 to 50 million people world wide have vitiligo.Good luck.

Vitiligo is a skin disorder characterized by loss of melanocytes with patchy loss of skin pigment.  The depigmented areas are most common on the hands, face, and genitals and are flat and pale.  This can occur in all ages and races, but are most common in blacks.  The cause is unknown but often occurs along with an autoimmune disorder.  Treatments include oral and topical synthetic trioxsalen and psoralen used with exposure to UV light, but the usefulness is questionable. discovering the autoimmune disorder and beginning treatments may slow the spread.  Have you physician test you for autoimmune disorders based on other symptoms that are occuring.  Good luck.
