Very mild stinging at tip of urethra

I have a very mild stinging at the tip of my urethra. Interestingly, it doesn’t sting when I pee. It will start a few minutes after I pee or quite a while after I pee while I’m just sitting around.  I have no other symptoms (no discharge from my penis, no fever, no urge to pee, etc.) I’ve tried google but most things that indicate a mild burning urethra usually has at least one other symptom. I’m in a monogamous relationship so unless my partner has been unfaithful then it’s probably not an STD (unless it was dormant for years). A bit perplexed on this one.

It could be the start of a prostate issue. How long has it been going on?

You don't mention your age, but it can happen at any age. Certain problems are more common as you get older, but infections can occur at any age.

You'll need to see a doctor, of course. Is there a reason you haven't gone?

In the meantime, avoid alcohol and caffeine. Caffeine, especially, seems to aggravate it.

It just started this week. I plan to go see a doctor next week. I was just wondering what it could be before my appointment as I’m getting a bit anxious about it. I am 47.
I've answered your other posts - I know you have anxiety, but really, this isn't likely to be anything serious.

You may even just be a little dehydrated. While you wait to see the doctor, make sure you drink lots of water, avoid caffeine and alcohol, and see how you feel.
And again, it doesn’t actually burn or sting WHILE I’m urinating. It stings at random intervals for a few seconds throughout the day. Everything I read, including prostate issues, mentions burning WHILE urinating. I am going to see a doctor but hoping to get some mental ease before the weekend. Thank you.
Yes, but it can cause it after. Other things can, too, like a UTI, kidney stones, or a host of other things.

I know it doesn't sting WHILE you urinate. I've read hundreds of posts from men on this site who have prostatitis, and they have a wide variety of symptoms. Some burn during, some after, some not at all. Some just have pain while sitting, or others it's relieved while sitting.

It might not be that. It might be dehydration. It might be the start of a UTI. It might be anxiety - you were worried about STIs like 2 weeks ago. There's no way of knowing without seeing your doctor, and I'm not diagnosing you.
Thank you. I appreciate the safe, non judgmental space you encourage here.
Auntjessie, thank you for the advice. After a couple of days or over-hydrating, the stinging is all but gone. Why do none of the other forums or sites suggest this simple thing to try first…they all send you down the STI/infection/cancer path. Thanks again for all your help and all you contribute to this site!
I'm happy to help. :)

Take care.
