Hello,
I recently developed a white discharge from my penis. I went to a GUM clinic where an infection was found to be present, and so I was tested for gonorrhoea, chlamydia, HIV and syphilis; I do not think I was tested for trichomoniasis. Anyway, the tests came back negative.
Pending the results, the doctor had given me 7 days 2x100mg doxycycline which resolved symptoms quickly and I thought the infection was cleared. However, 5 days after the course was over, the white discharge returned.
I made an appointment at my GP, but meanwhile I developed a strange "adrenaline-rush" type sensation giving me cold feet, restlessness and weak legs. It's difficult to describe but it was scary and I thought I might have kidney infection, given that it's a possible complication. I was tested for fever, nitrites and blood in my urine and urine cloudiness but these came back negative. They concluded it's probably not a kidney infection, but I still don't know what caused these symptoms.
I was then prescribed 5 days azithromycin. They took a urine sample to grow a culture, but my sample was lost... Although symptoms almost disappeared, they never fully did and white discharge remains. I also still have the restlessness, and hope my kidneys are fine.
Given that the discharge is white, I assume I can be certain that inflammation persists?
Without knowing what bacteria is causing my symptoms (I will now ask for a second attemt to grow a culture) what would now be the next-best antibiotic to try? Some of my thoughts were:
- Levofloxacin or moxyfloxacin; this might help against mycoplasma
- Metronidazole in case I have trichomiasis
Please let me know your thoughts.
