White Pubic Hair

I am 29, white male in good health. As a teenager, maybe 15 years ago I experienced fungus and itchiness around my genitals. This probably due to bad hygiene. The severe itching caused the skin to lose its pigmentation around the left side of my opossum. The pubic hair also turned white. I went to the doctor who prescribed me cream that took away the itchiness but he could not see why the hair turned white. To this day the pubic hair in that area is white. The skin is also "whiter" than the rest of the skin. I guess this is a result of me itching it. At the time, I was not sexually active but I am now and it is not an issue. However, I really want the hair to turn back to normal black again. Is this possible?

It is likely that hairs may change the color on its own.
