bump on neck

Three days ago I developed a bump on the back of my neck about the size of a pea. Today its the size of a baseball and feels more like a knot with swelling around it. I've had a rash on my neck previous to this thinking it was a heat rash and I'm not sure if it's related.

I went to the ER lastnight and was told this morning after a sonogram that the area was at my lymphoid and that it is an infection from an ingrown hair. I was given two prescription s and told that I may need to have it lanced and drain if a pimple were to show up. Right now it's just swollen. This is somewhat a relief because I've never had anything like this happen before and after reading some of the stories I started to believe that maybe it was cancer. It all happened within 3 days. Scarey...... From a knot the size of a pea to a baseball size knot in three days.
