Daily migraines/tension headaches

No medicine helps rid me of these headaches. Does anyone know any techniques or anything that will help? The headaches are causing me to not be able to sleep. Its a vicious cycle.

Just so you know melatonin is to help you sleep it will not help with headaches. Good luck

Hey there I feel for you as I have suffered with daily chronic headaches for more than 20 years and I've tried all meds out there and would sometimes get lucky with relief for a while until my system got use to the meds or I wound up with rebound headaches from over medicating. When you have a headache every day all you want is relief. I won't bore you with everything I've tried and done. But 3 months ago I started Cymbalta 30 mgs, Allegra in the morning and vitamin d3 and magnesium and I've noticed a BIG difference, yes I get them now and then but no comparison to what I was getting before. Sometimes it's a combo that may work best. Just trying to give you some options as I'm not sure of what you've tried. PT and botox did nothing for me but eveyone is different. Good luck, started to notice a difference in about 2 weeks if not less and I too would wake up and go to sleep with my head pounding every day! Good luck and let me know how you're doing.

If you have them that often, you should be trying a daily preventative migraine medication.  It really doesn't sound like you have been given a prescription to one which is just plain negligent on the part of your doctors.  That could make a tremendous difference for you.  If your current doctors aren't prescribing one for you, demand that they do.  If not, a neurologist is most available for an appointment, but a pain management doctor or headache specialist would be most reliable, but they tend to have long waiting lists.

Try several different preventative meds first.  If  they don't work for you, then Botox injections are more likely to work.  Also nerve block and trigger point injections can help you.  I get all three of those.  Also I wear a 24/7 opiate patch called a Butrans patch which a lot of docs don't know about since it is newer.  Also if you have neck or shoulder tightness, PT can help you.

Let me know about your quest to get one of the daily preventative meds.  You should never have had to wait all this time to get relief.   Really let me know.

You don't say how often you get headaches.

If they are often, Journeyfan above has the right idea that I posted to you before. You need a daily preventative medication like propanolol.  From the medicines that you're talking about, your doctors have not prescribed any to you.  If you haven't seen the kind of specialists I mentioned above, then you aren't being treated effectively according to what you've reported.

If you don't have the bad headaches very often, say like several times a month, have you tried Esgic or Fiorcet?  They cannot be taken more than twice a week or you get ferocious rebound migraines. But they have helped me the most when I get a terrible migraine which is not very often now that I've been treated with non-medication treatments.

If you have tried daily preventative medications, let us know which ones.  Then there are other treatments which have helped me since only one daily herbal medication has helped me to pare down the 24/7 severe migraines that I got after a stroke.

There is a lot of other help available for you.

if you get them on occasion or even to the point you cant relax enough to sleep try 2 tylinol pm and take a nap. It works everytime. also, if you get them 3 or more times a week try propranolol, its a beta blocker you take once daily, and does work! I have sufferd from savere migranes for almost 30 tears and have tryed every test done by doctors, and every headache medication. sometimes also i have a massager that i place at the base of my skull or even on temples and forhead and that helps numb the pain/with pm's.

I've had bad headaches since I was a child. I have tried everything from advil and tylenol to percocet and vicodin. Nothing seems to help. Every time I go to the doctors they prescribe me tylenol and send me on my way/

Carly,
You don't say how long you've had these headaches or what kind of medicine you are using or whether you've seen a neurologist, headache specialist or pain clinic about them.

Do not know if you've tried any daily preventative medications to prevent the headaches since if you take any pain reliever 3 times a week or more, it causes rebound headaches.

Also there are a number of other treatments available that do not involve medication if the preventative medicines don't work.

So please provide more information so that I can help you better.

It's terrible to suffer from non-stop headaches, so I would like to help you.
