Exercise induced headaches/Migraine

Hi, I have worked out that exercise is causing my headaches and migraines to the point now that when I go for a 30minute walk I get a shocking headache. If I run then that will then give me a migraine about 15-30minutes later with aura/nausea and the after headache lasts for a good couple of days. I have had a heart exam (TOE) to see if there was any holes as with new study there is a correlation between holes in the heart and migraines - my results showed a very small hole but not significant to patch??? I also had an MRI to see if the brain was being affected but this came back clear. Dont really know what to do now as I used to be a very energetic and fit person but I do not want another migraine so I have turned into a couch potato...I only have one wish and that is to rid the migraines...doctor has given me SANDOMIGRAN TAB 500mcg..as a preventitive..what now ?

Hi,
Headaches post workout are not uncommon and usually respond to the conventional OTC painkillers. What you need to do is maintain adequate hydration and drink plenty of fluids to compensate for the fluid loss during the workouts. Plus all workout training should be done under supervision. Get a complete clinical evaluation done by a physician and discuss with him whether you can go ahead with the training exercises. You also need to replace the salts that you loose with the workouts. See to it that you do not have hypoglycemia after the workouts. Other than that there should be no obstacles holding you from your regular workouts. Goodluck.
