This is lengthy, but a worthy read for people with migraines.
Some people might have read this from me on other posts I've made, but I decided to make a general post of my own and hope everyone reads it. Mind you, what I have discovered might not help everyone but anything is worth a try. I get awful migraines. I get all the classic symptoms: aura, tingling and numbness, huge head ache, sickness and vomiting, sensitivity to light and sound. I even lose my grip on reality, which is not a classic sign I have ever heard of and possibly something I should get checked out. I sometimes can't even remember who I am it gets so bad. Well, around a year ago they got even worse, or I guess I should say more frequent. I was getting them several times a week and sometimes I would get them several times a day. By that I mean I would get the aura, the numbness, etc and then the head ache. When I get the head ache the aura leaves. Well, after a few hours of just the head ache the aura would come back and the cycle would start again before it had ever finished! With what it does to my mind, and all the pain, you can imagine how desperate I was. Someone suggested trying alchohol and I did, which didn't work.
Well, finally someone suggested taking Aleve, one in the morning and one at night. I don't know if any of you have heard of Aleve or seen the commercials, but it is simply an over the counter pain medicine, I think mostly for head aches but I believe it is an all around aches and pains thing. Well, at first I took them one in the morning and one at night. It worked! And instantly, all those migraines I was having every day disappeard. Now, I still get migraines once in awhile, but it is so rare and such a relief at how rare it is, I can't even describe it. Unfortunately the Aleve does NOTHING once I have the migraine, not even take some of the pain away, but prevention is just as valuable. Nowadays I am only taking the Aleve at night before I go to sleep, but it is working just as well. Hope this helps at least someone out there! May we all be migraine free!
