Sore scalp/head when i sniff

I was wondering if anyone is able to help me. The last 2/3 days i have had bad burning headaches/scalp which has left my scalp feeling tender & sore. However now when i sniff the top of my head in the center (kind of where a hairband would sit) it feel sore & burny.. is this sinusitis?? I do feel congested on & off & have had a small runny nose along with eye pain (they feel like there is lots of pressure in them).

I have TMJ & an injured neck too but was thinking that it was maybe sinustis rather than a link with those. I would really appreciate some medical advice to clarify what this is along with treatment.

Hi,

Yes it is quite possible that your neck problems are causing burning pain in the back of head. Nerve compression in the cervical region due to disc prolapse or canal stenosis can cause severe pain in the neck along with pain in the back of the head.
Does your work require you to be constantly bent over?
If so please correct your posture and do some neck exercises. You can also take OTC antiinflammatories. Also please consult your PCP and undergo CT scan or MRI of neck.
Take care!

I am not sure weather its my head or scalp burning its really hard to distinguish. I just no it feels like someone has poured acid on my head & it lasted about a week all in all.
I very rarely get migraines so don't think its that, but don't know what it is.

I woke up this morning & my neck pain was full blown & playing up & after about an hour of being awake i started getting twinges in the back of my head every so often...and i was wondering weather these were related to my neck pain. In fact all my symptoms related to my neck pain now??

Did you say your head was burning or your scalp/skin was burning?

I have suffered from severe migraines for over 40 years. Since going on Topamax my main migraine symptoms have disappeared, ie. the severe pain on the side of the head but the other symptoms still exhist.  I have the neck pain, aortic pain, eye pain with burning, face pain with burning and the newest symptom which started a year ago is my scalp burns which last for at least four days to a week.

I do have Fibromyalgia since the mid 90's but the migraines started around 11 years old.  My worst migraines were worst when I was pregnant and going through menopause. Now that hormones are not the demon, neurological aspects of FM are.

I hope this may have enlightened you to any aspects of your headaches.

Hi,

Hope you are feeling better.
It is difficult to pin point the exact diagnosis without clinical examination. However the possibility of sinusitis is quite strong since you have pain behind the eyes with runny nose along with tender sore scalp.
I would suggest you to take steam inhalation 4-5 times a day and see if it helps your symptoms. You can also take OTC decongestants.
A bad case of TMJ can also cause burning headaches. I would suggest you to use a mouth guard while sleeping. It is also important to know the extent of neck injury since nerve compression in the upper part of neck can cause burning headaches.
