Speech Difficulties and Migraines

Has any one ever come across speech difficulty, either slurred or stuttering speech, along with migraines? I have done research on the subject and have come up with the slurred speech issue with migraines but not stuttering and i'm trying to help my twin with her migraines and speech difficulties from ending her career.

Your twin is lucky to have you.  I have speech issues also with my silent migraine, as well as balance issues.  Not so much stuttering as I am trying to speak and can't get it out or sometimes can't find the words.  My family says I slur my words.  Often it takes me a long time to get my words out.  So stuttering wouldn't surprise me, but I agree she needs a good neurologist who specializes in headache.  This is a good website also http://www.headache-adviser.com/

If you are worried that it might end her career... well, migraines are a neurological disease and qualify as a disability. If she works for a company and is not self-employeed, then she should work with her doctor to make sure that her employers understand that she has a medical disability and legally they cannot fire her for her disability.

Also, is she seeing a neurologist? It is important that she has a neurologist that she is working with to get her migraines under control and that she also have both a preventative treatment plan and an acute treatment plan. A neurologist is the best kind of doctor to work with her to get these treatment plans set up. Not all neurologists are great... if her neurologist isn't helping her right now and she is not finding relief and her migraines are becoming such a disability that she might lose her job and she does not feel her current neurologist is supporting her or understands her condition or is equipped to treat her, I would strongly suggest searching for a new neurologist. I had to go to a few neurologists before I found one that helped me... don't let her give up! And don't let her employers break the law by firing someone because they have a disability (as long as she feels she can still do her job with accommodations). If SHE feels she cannot do her job until she finds proper treatment, then remember that since she has a disability, she can apply for disability compensation (from her job, private insurance or the government.. depending on where you live and the situation) until she is able to work again... but that disability compensation is only temporary and she can restart her career once she has found proper treatment and management of her migraines.

I have "silent" migraines which affect my speech. I can't say what I think. It comes out slurred but no stuttering. Brad
