severe headache and Lupus

I'm 31 and female w/a 13 year history of Lupus.  I was diagnosed w/CNS lupus 9 years ago.  A year ago in june following abdominal surgery I got the worst headache I've ever had.  I was hospitalized for 9 days.  The only thing that helped the headaches a little was Decadron.  The headaches continued for 7 months.  In Jan of 2008 my lupus flared and I was gived IV"d solumedrol 6 grams.  My headache went 100% away.  I also started cytoxan chemotherapy.  I take Calan 240 mgs for migraine prevention and Amerge for a migraine.  This Saturday the headache came back.  It hurts, throbs, I can't do anything and am very nauseated.  What are my other options to take if the Amerge doesn't help?  Thanks.

Thank you.  My headache keeps getting worse.  My neuro is back in the office on Friday.  I will ask him about the meds you mentioned.  Thank you.

Hi,

How are you?
There are other options from the same group of drugs like frovatriptan, rizatriptan and almotriptan.
Anti depressants and beta blockers have also been shown to be helpful in migraine.
You can also try biofeedback therapy and magnesium supplements which have been found to be very useful in preventing migraine attacks. Take care!
