Thank you for saying you will track progress and comment at the moment I haven't had the time to this excercise. But today I should be able to try it for the first time when I can have a quiet room to myself where I am not going to be distracted by my little sister. Also what happens if one day I forget to do it? Will the benefits not be as great? I am a forgetful person.
Concentrate on the breathing and keep your eyes closed.
Keep a note of the date, time and duration of the headache,
and how many minutes anulom vilom you did on the day.
Note anything you notice about yourself, eg: better sleep etc.
I will watch your progress and comment.
I will give this a try, thank you.
What should I do if the headache does not vanish? I have one everyday and I can't remember the last time I was without a headache.
In answer to "what should I try next for headache".
Do this pranayam breathing technique and you will start to feel the benefits gradually in 9 days. Continue the pranayam once a day after the headache has disappeared.Drink warm water.
Build up your timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after one minute.
Anulom Vilom –
Close your right nostril with thumb and deep breath-in through left nostril
then – close left nostril with two fingers and breath-out through right nostril
then -keeping the left nostril closed deep breath-in through right nostril
then - close your right nostril with thumb and breath-out through left nostril.
This is one cycle of anulom vilom.
Repeat this cycle for 15 to 30 minutes twice a day.
Children under 15 years – do 5 to 10 minutes twice a day.
You can do this before breakfast/lunch/dinner or before bedtime or in bed.Remember to take deep long breaths into the lungs. You can do this while sitting on floor or chair or lying in bed.
It's not too long a post don't worry. I like long posts! It means more help.
I will add you as a friend so we can talk more. I will post again or add you and talk at the moment I need to do something so have to get off the computer. Speak to you soon.
Wow! You sound almost exactly like me!! (sorry that's exciting for me because I have never found anyone that has this exact problem.
I've been having headaches and migraines on a constant since I was about 7. At first they thought the headaches were because of my change to wearing glasses, but when the headaches were still there a few years later they decided that couldn't be it. I was still young, 9 or 10 - they said "take some tylenol and see if that helps. It didn't; it actually made things worse. When they told me to take more, it made it even more bad. Eventually they gave up and said I was being a problem child and just trying to get attention, so I gave up on doctors and took things into my own hands for a while. I tried various different types of OTC tablets and sometimes ibuprofen would help, sometimes it wouldn't. I could never understand why until I started getting Hemiplegic Migraines and had to see a doctor for it when I was 14. My regular doctors said they couldn't explain it and to see a neurologist. It took well over a year to decide it was Hemiplegic Migraine, and not just migraines over top of some underlying issue.
He tried me on many things - most recently Frova (which made them worse) - and Imitrex seems to be the only thing that helps me. What I'm getting at with this obnoxiously long post (sorry about that by the way) is that you may have something else that I was diagnosed with - it's called (at least by my neurologist) Baseline Headache. It means I almost never not have a headache. I can get migraines on top of it as well. I have the same problem as you where regular OTC tablets and even some prescription drugs don't work for that, and I've found that a couple of herbal tea's occasionally will - usually Earl Grey with Rosemary works wonders to at least make it more bearable. I haven't found anything to make it fully go away. I think the last time I completely didn't have a headache or migraine, I was 16. I am now about to turn 19 this September. I've found that Caffeine helps my migraines (apparently mine are backwards somehow?) - Redbull Sugar-Free is the best thing to help those.
It's possible that you are just sensitive - I definitely am. I have a minor case of Epilepsy, so light can be bad. Repetitive bass sounds or shrill sounds can destroy me. Air pressure changes, storm fronts, chlorine in pools (or anywhere near me really), and I think aspartame in sodas too.
I'll end this post now I think since it's gotten way too long. Let me know if you want to talk about this stuff at all - I'd love to swap ideas and stories. Otherwise, I'd recommend finding a good neurologist in your area and see what he has to say. Good luck!
Hello.
Sadly I am a very forgetful person. I remember being put on medication for migraines and on ONE occasion being told that these needed to be taken at night to prevent migraines the next day. The tablet in question (can't remember its name, this was some years ago) did not help.
I think my sleep may trigger some. Caffeine I feel is less likely to trigger as I thought this was the main trigger once and had a few weeks with severe caffeine reduction, but the headaches were of the same severity and appered just as often. I do believe that in the past over the counter meds did give me headaches, as of now I hardly ever take tablets to battle a headache.
I will ask for more advice of my doctors regarding a specialist.
I have a question. I get headache triggered by a lot of things; smells, sounds, light etc and I was wondering am I sensitive in some way? I am asking you because you have already given me great help and seem to know more or explain more than my own doctors.
Thank you
Hi! Has anyone ever talked to you about putting you on a preventative for your migraines? These meds help to reduce the frequency and severity of your headaches. Some of these drugs include some blood pressure meds and some seizure meds. I know many, many people who get much needed relief from them. It is definitely much better to head off a migraine before it starts. What are your sleeping habits like? Too much or too little sleep can trigger headaches. How much caffeine do you drink? Too much can trigger headaches. I don't do caffeine, but when I feel a migraine coming on, a drink a glass of pop and sometimes that will do the trick and I don't get the headache or it won't be as bad as I thought it was going to be. It sounds like you might have something called "medication overuse headache" . When you overuse pain meds (prescription or over the counter) they can cause a headache that is worse than the one that you took it for in the first place. They can turn what used to be episodic headaches into chronic ones. I would definitely talk to your doc about finding a headache specialist. They would be able to best advise you about preventatives, good abortives (meds that you take once you feel a migraine is starting - triptans like Imitrex and Zomig are often used), and rescue meds (pain meds that you use if the abortives fail to work). I hope you find relief.
