Which form of magnesium are you using?
Magnesium dioxide is often used because it is cheap, but it is not absorbed well in the intestines. Magnesium glycinate or taurinate are better.
Example of a product that has some of the more easily absorbed forms:

Magnesium (as magnesium citrate, taurinate, glycinate, and succinate)
You do need to take more than 400 mg daily, and you must continue with it.
Low levels of magnesium within the muscle and nerve cells can cause muscle cramps, twitching, and tremors. Also cardiac irregularities.
Almonds are a good food source of magnesium. Eat several ounces daily.
Supplementing magnesium can also help with the pain sensations, with anxiety, panic attacks, depression.
I suggested mag because many of your symptoms resemble Lyme Disease, and the Lyme bacteria use up the magnesium within our cells. Since our body's cells need magnesium for all enzyme processes, this causes many problems.
The SSRI meds (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors) can help to reduce the pain of migraines.
Beta blockers, often used for cardiac problems, can help reduce migraines.
Hypercoagulation symptoms include headache, muscle ache, and joint pain.

I experimented with treating my migraines with systemic enzymes (Wobenzym) and found that my headache pain was reduced. Systemic enzymes reduce hypercoagulation, and are 'over the counter.'
I have seen so many people with tick borne infection who have migraines, that I've begun to wonder if most migraines aren't caused by Lyme Disease.
I've noticed that people with migraine very often have other Lyme symptoms.
Wishing you the best,
Carol
Thank you for your response. I have actually tried magnesium. It doesn't seem to do anything. A friend of mine who is a Chiropracter suggested that a few years ago. I take an iron supplement and a multivitamin, 5-HTP which is a natural supplement that helps with mood and for sleep. It was my understanding that the magnesium is supposed to be a natural muscle relaxer.
Do a google search for headache and magnesium.
