Migraines with stroke symptoms

Last year I was diagnosed with migraines after having stroke symptoms for several weeks in March and again in June. I take a baby apirin a day per my neurologist, Im 42, smoke ocassionally, and have just started taking an oral contraceptive again.

Should I stop the oral contraceptive? And if I don't, do I risk experiencing more stroke symptoms? Are these migraine-strokes benign, and do I run the risk of having permanent symptoms?

Hi Midi,

We live up north in Schuylkill but travel there because it is the closest place that offers such a treatment.  It's a pain to travel 81, but not nearly as bad as my wife's migraines get.  I'm glad we found something that has a positive effect rather then medication alone.  I'm so amazed how this technology works.  Doctors don't know why it works just that it does.  It somehow soothes the brain back to a normal state.  I do hope someone can give you more info on the relationship between strokes and oral contraceptives.

Hi Ed,

Yep, I have read about the correlation between strokes and oral contraceptives but was looking for a little more detailed info. I've stopped taking the pill for now until I talk to my doc at an upcoming visit in Sept. cross your fingers for me... No more babies :)

Are you in Linglestown, PA?

Hi Midjiane,

You have heard about the relationship between strokes and oral contraception?  I can't give you any more detail (guy ya know) but may you should look into that more.

BTW, my wife is having some success with a EEG based therapy program based in Linglestown.  It has had a good effect on her migraines so we are hoping that continued therapy will help bring down the medication use.  If you are interested in learning more, I can give a link to the site.

Good luck and hope all is well.
