ear swooshing

I have recently weaned off cymbalta and increased topamax. The cymbalta did not help with the migraines and I did not need it emotionally either. I use to use Botox injections in my temples, jaws (tmj) and back of neck (bad muscle) for my migraines but discontinued, at that time I was put on Topamax for one yr. the migraines increased tremendoulsy and moved from what they had been before.  I have been put on a higher dose of Topamax now, I have also tried almost every drug their is for migraines previously to the Botox injections.  I would have stayed with the Botox but the insurance changed when my company went over to China and I had to find new employment. I also used Zomig to stop a migraine once it starts unless that doesn't help than a trip to the ER does.  Now they have given me Amerge to use when I get a migraine to stop it, it is suppose to be slower acting but has a longer lasting effect, so the migraine will not come back the next day, and that is what was happening.  Now for my ears, they are constantly "swooshing" sometimes I feel if I could just hold still and not move at all they would not do it, also when I shake my head even a little, my right ear has a ringing or a tune in it, I do not know how to explain it, but it has been their for about two months now, and the right ear has some clicking in it sometimes, the neurologist does not see an ear infection, and says I should see an ear specialist, I haven't told any doctors about the swooshing or tune in my ear, I figure they will tell me it's nothing and I just have to live with it, but it is getting harder to live with. Have you heard of this before?

I had a visula field quantitative test done by my optomatrist, and my migraines do not go away when I lay down, I have actually had to have a couple rounds of steroids lately to make the pressure in my head feel better, I would think they would suggest a MRI or something.

Hey babe.  Because you have migraines and because you have swooshing in your ears indicates to me that you should be checked for pseudotumor cerebri which is a buildup of spinal fluid in the brain.  It can happen for no reason and causes your symptoms and may be the cause of your migraines.  They test it with a spinal tap or eye exam by an optemologist, but it must be an optemologist, not optomatrist.  If your migraines seem to go away when you lay horizontally then you have this for sure.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi,

This swooshing in your ears may be suggestive of tinnitus. The tinnitus may be secondary to a drug reaction thus, I suggest that you discuss this with your physician prescriber in case any of your medications may need to be reassessed.

Also, you have been previously diagnosed with migraine headaches.  The tinnitus may be associated with your migraine. However, “tinnitus is not a common auditory symptom in migraine. Recent research suggests that central sensitization (CS) develops in most migraneurs during the course of a migraine attack.”

Also, it is important to point out that "cochleovestibular symptoms can be seen in migraineurs.”Cochleovestibular symptoms include dizziness, vertigo and tinnitus.

I suggest that you discuss this with your physician. It is important that the source of the tinnitus be assessed. This may be secondary to the medications, may be secondary to a localized ear disorder or may be associated with the migraines.

How odd. I am taking 6 Topamax's a day, and I don't have that with my ears. I would ask your Dr, if I were you.
