headache Centres

I have an appointment at a headache centre, please can you tell me what to expect, I realise not every centre would be the same, it said on the letter to allow 45 mim’s, this sounds a fair time, just hope I can explain myself as I am not good with medical appointments.

Hi Ticker53,

I just wanted to say that I thought sheila53213's suggestion of writing everything down prior to the appointment was a great idea. I try to do that too if I am going to see a new doctor, or if I have lots of questions to ask at a doctors appointments, or if I ever feel nervous about a specific doctor's appointment.

I think that it is good that you are going to see a headache specialist. It is important to have a good doctor that understands headaches who you also trust. I have an excellent and well-respected neurologist who treats my headaches and it really does make all the difference.

Good luck at your appointment. Let us know how it goes. Keep in touch.

Thank you, I shall start writting things down. I have already seen a neurologist for an un diagnosed problem for 15 years, when I asked for help for the head aches I have been having for 4 years, it was him that suggested i took Amitripyline.

I found out about headache centres & asked my GP if I could be refered, I feel I must talk to someone who is actually interested in headaches.

What headache center are you going to? When I went to my first appointment I was there for almost 4 hours. I met with a nutrionist, physical therapist, psychiatrist, and then the neurologist.
If it helps, before your appointment write everything down and bring it in. Like your symptoms, where the pain is, does it intensify when you are active, what do you do currently to help manage the pain, how long does it last, do you wake up with headaches/migraines, do certain foods you notice make it worst. They will ask you things that you may think have nothing to do with a headache but it may just be a trigger for you that you aren't aware of.
Those are some of the things that they asked me when I first went. So think now and write it down. This way you won't forget and maybe you can explain yourself better.
Hope this helps.
