migraine

I started having migraine 1st time in my life in dec 2008. my doc put me on birth control pills and took pills for 2days and that night while I was sleeping I woke up with this bad one sides headache....I still remember how bad that headache was, I was in tears and excrutiating pain in one left eye and head. I had no aura I just woke up with this horrible pain. My doc then  gave me a shot od deporpovera.....and where then, I have developed "migraines".in this 16months period, honetly speaking I just had migraine with aura(optical migraine with stars and lights in the visual field). out of 8 episodes of migarine in the l6months, I always have migraine while I am sleeping, usually very early morning like 4-6a.m. This time today it started at 7a.m.
The pain is so intense that I want to ***** sharp knife to cut that part of head and eye. especialy the eye pain is so bad and the intensity decreases a bit by vomiting. I have to take multiple pain killers and it takes almost6-10hrs to make the pain go away to a level where I feel comfortable with daily activities. but the weird thing is, whenever migraine strikes me and as soon as I feel to eat I want to eat somethind salty, I crave for salt....and there's a weird taste in my mouth that pushes me to eat salty( I feel to eat salthy because of my taste in mouth....I feel like I have had really high fever....I know most of the people understand what I mean).
My question is why I have migraine while I sleep? and I always have excrutiating one eye pain and same half side of head is involved too!  I am 28 years old female!

Hypothyroid for 16months on synthyroid .125mg
High prolactin on parlodel 1.25mg
CLA
B12 shots for b12 deficiency
B6

any insight 'll be helpful!

Hi,
It is good that you do not smoke or drink. Try not to be scared and be proactive about this. Hang on and talk to your doctor about this for proper management. An open communcation of all symptoms and worries will lead to a better management, if not treatment. Try not to worry and stress too much. Thsi may indeed contributory factors. Take care always.

Thanks alot dr. santos!

I actually dont drink alcohol and dont smoke (due to religious matters).I always have these types of migraine/cluster headaches around AF (periods). Not sure, why but I sleep like I normally do and just before having the headache I get restless and sleepless. Its even more difficult to treat it in early stages since I dont have any clue when the headache strikes....as people can if they follow an aura and headache. It just could be hormonal imbalance/stress. But I truly am scared of the next episode....it spoils my day!!!

Hi,
How are you? Headaches with excruciating pain in vicinity of eye may be caused by cluster headache. This is one type of primary headache which is often associated with migraine headaches also. Pain frequently develops during sleep and may last for several hours. Try to avoid alcoholic beverages or  excessive smoking because this can trigger it. Treatment may include oxygen, ergotamine, sumatriptan or intranasal application of local anesthetic agent. Check with your doctor for proper management. Take care and do keep us posted.
