Will keep you posted.

I haven't tried a calcium blocker yet... let me know how that goes, okay? I am really curious about those... they sound really interesting, and as far as what goes on during a migraine chemically, it makes a lot of sense that they would work and help.

I hope it helps!! Good luck! Keep me posted!

Same with me........silent migraines and others with the headache.  They are switching me to a different med from Nadolol, which wasn't working.  They were going to try tricycline meds like Imipramine but they also make me gain weight which I don't need.

So I guess it is a calcium blocker, also lowers Blood Pressure --I will try that next week.

I don't know what kinds of migraines I have.  I do have silent migraines, which are like auras without the headache, but I also have the migraines that have the headache and nausea.  I also have combination headaches with tension headaches.

Hi Tracy,

I think a lot of us hate having to take the opiates when our regular migraine meds don't work. I hate having to take my hydromorphone when my triptans + naproxen + metoclopramide + gravol doesn't work... so I know what you mean!

I'm doing better today I think! The aura was gone this morning and no headache, yay! I hope you are feeling better too! I'm glad you were able to keep it bay over night with what you had available at home. ER trips are never fun!! I hate being hooked up to an IV... even though the medicine they give me with it always ends up making me feel better... still no fun!! So, I'm glad you were able to keep it at bay at home... always more comfortable at home. :)

Thank you so much.  We don't have a walk in clinic on the weekends, LOL too small of a town.  I could keep it at bay with the Zomig, oxycodone, magnesium so I didn't have to go to the ER.  Last time they gave me DHE and that helped.  I just hate taking oxycode, I don't like to take more than I have to.  My husband is very good at telling, he said it isn't hard, I talk and make no sense. LOL

Sounds like we do the same things.  Hope you are better today. Thank you so much!

Hi Tracy,

When I'm having a migraine and absolutely nothing is working to provide relief... I will then wait for a reasonable amount of time for all of the medications to work (it can take up to 2 hours for triptans and pain killers to work) and if they still don't work, then I will reassess the situation.

If I am in severe pain and I do not feel as if I can manage the pain OR if the pain has lasted for more than 72 hours, then I will call my doctor and try to make an appointment to see him that day. If I cannot see my own doctor that day... which I usually can't because it is almost impossible to book an appointment on the same day you call... then I will go to a walk-in-clinic. My doctor or the doctors at the walk in clinic can sometimes prescribe something new that might help or they will suggest the next appropriate action to take. I always make sure that my parents or my brother drives me to see my doctor, or I will take a taxi.

If my doctor's office and all of the walk-in clinics are closed for the day, then my next option is to go to the Urgent Care Centre. It is like an Emergency Department but for things that are not really emergencies, like not life-threatening, but still urgent... like severe headaches!! I also make sure to get my parents or my brother to drive me or I will take a taxi... because it is not safe to drive when I am in severe pain or if I am having a migraine aura or if I am feeling symptoms of numbness, paralysis or confusion.

The Urgent Care Centre where I live closes at 10pm. So... my next option, if I feel that I cannot manage the pain over-night because the pain is too severe and has gone on for too long, is to go to the Emergency Department. At emergency, if I have taken everything at home already, they usually give me something called metoclopramide, it is a stomach medication that helps migraines for some reason, they give it by IV. They also give me IV fluids, just normal saline. And, usually Dilaudid by IV too. That combo seems to help for some reason. But, you have already taken an oxycodone... so, more opiates like dilaudid probably wouldn't help. But, metoclopramide by IV might help... if it really doesn't get better and you are in absolutely horrible pain, you could always go to and urgent care centre or hospital and ask about metoclopramide... it might not be appropriate treatment in your situation or you might be allergic to it or there might be a reason you can't tale it like drug interactions or medical condition interactions... but, who knows, if you do go to the hospital, they might end up giving it to you since you've tried everything else tonight.

Well, that is what I do when I have taken one of everything I have for my migraines and nothing works.

Other things I do to help make me feel better while I am waiting for the medication to work are all probably things you do already when you are waiting for the medication to work... but I dunno, I'll tell you about them anyway... I rest in a dark room if it is possible, although sometimes the pain is too severe to do this... in which case I will dim the lights in the whole house so that I can pace freely (when my pain becomes severe I cannot rest, I tend to pace frantically). I also alert my family members that I am having a very bad migraine... it is good that your husband recognizes that you are not communicating correctly... it is important that he is aware of your behaviour so that he can help keep you safe while you are having a migraine attack. If your vision is already blurry and you dim the lights, you wouldn't want to be tripping over things, so it would be good if your husband was there to watch and help you if you were to dim all of the lights.

I also use ice packs on the very top of my head and I run warm, not hot, water over my wrists. Although... the warm water over your wrists might feel bad if you were having numbness or tingling in your hands. But, I usually find it helpful with the pain in my head for some reason.

Anyway... I hope it gets better soon!! My vision has been blurry for most of the night too... I couldn't read anything for about an hour tonight... and I had a dark halo in my vision for that hour as well... it was a migraine aura for me. Oh well. Hopefully our migraines will go away soon!!

I wish I knew for sure what type of migraine I have.  So far the Drs just say silent migraine because often I don't feel the pain for days after the actual migraine starts.  It does start in the back of my head usually--which reminds me of Basilar.  But I have confusion, memory loss, visual problems, stroke like symptoms, and the went away in my 20's which reminds me of Hemiplegic.???

So I am lost.  Any help from anyone would be appreciated.
Thank you
Tracy
ps right now I am in the midst of one.  And nothing --zomig, neurontin, magnesium---I even tried a oxycodone, but none of it is working.  My husband says I am not communicating correctly and I am confused, left side of my head is numb, and my vision is blurry, besides the horrible pain which I now have.  Any suggestions?
Thank you all!
