- Oh ok thanks ima do that! An my boyfriend won't let me do that aha aha aha and I'm alreayf cleared to try again we are just doing the waiting part now!
It depends on your doctor. My previous ob refused to give me progesterone supplements because 'there wasnt enough scientific evidence that it helped prevent miscarriages' - according to her... I am pretty sure I wouldnt have miscarried the second time if I had the supplements, and it pissed me off that she would even say that because I could find plenty of evidence for progesterone treatments just by doing a simple google search and checking the sources...
Needless to say I got a new doctor.
Your best bet is to schedule a pre-conception meeting with your doctor to make a plan of action for when you decide to try again.
Dont lose hope!
Well this was my first pregnancy but I still think I do.
Because I don't think I can hold a baby after 23 - 30 weeks :(
Ok so if a woman needs it in her last trimester well her doctor give it to her?
Yes, in certain cases it can prevent miscarriages in the first trimester. I was on it from the moment I found out I was pregnant to 14 weeks, because I had a history of miscarrying in the first trimester and testing really low for progesterone. My body just wouldnt make the hormone. I am now 18w and my dr is monitoring me closely to see if i need to go back on the progesterone.
Wait so it do prevents miscarriages right?
- dang, I went in to labor @ 29 weeks & 5 days but she didn't come out of a whole two today's, but dang thanks for the advice :))
The only thing i know about progesterone after the first trimester is that they sometimes give it to women to keep them from going into labor too early. I dont know anything about it preventing stillbirth.
Sorry for your loss *hugs&healing*
I don't think low progesterone causes stillbirth, but talk to your doctor.
- Oh ok but what if she can hold a baby after 23 weeks then would she need it because I think I'm like that because my friend is like that she had atlest 2 or three stillborns and I had one at 30 weeks and that was my first time being pregnant :(
Progesterone is a hormone that is produced by the body and has the effect of preventing a period, until its level drops, and then a period comes. It is significant in early pregnancy because it prevents the body from having a period at the usual time and washing out an early embryo. It is often prescribed in Europe as a routine thing during pregnancy, but not all women need it, especially past their 12th week. By then the placenta is producing so much progesterone that pills or shots would be useless.
If a person has the issue of low progesterone in early pregnancy (diagnosed by a blood test), by all means she should get supplemented.
