After effects from eptopic pregnancy

Hi there- 14 mths ago I had an eptopic pregnancy and had to have my tube removed as the tube had burst, it was an emergancy operation.
My doctor said that I could carry on trying for a baby when i felt ready, and that I would have as much chance as anyone else trying with one tube left. (No luck as yet).
I'm 25yrs old and since then I have had no sex drive, feel very depressed, my body feels very achy and old, and my periods are quite painful. And the past week I have been having pains on my left side above my pelvic area. I have had a period in the last two weeks so I dont believe it is another eptopic and not being so sure on what side my tube was removed im starting to worry that all these problems maybe due to the operation.
Could I have damaged tissue down there or are there any side effects which could arise from this kind operation?
Anyone know what Im talking about please reply.
Thanks, Jenny

Hello all. thank you so much for sharing your experiences, reading them has really helped me. please don't let such an experience bring you down, these are things that happen in life which we are not in control of and whether we are able to produce children or not, does not determine how much of a woman we are! unfortunately many doctors are insensitive towards patients feelings and do not like to give concrete answers about the cause of ectopic pregnancy and the likelihood to reproduce after that (unless they factually know because the patient no longer has the 'parts' to do so), the truth is they do this .... because they just don't know what could happen on an individual level since every case is different.

I had surgery 4 weeks ago to remove a raptured ectopic pregnancy. I lost my right fallopian tube and of course my unborn child but thankfully not my own life. I found out I was pregnant at 7 weeks and we were extremely excited, but soon after I started to have some bleeding and after 3 internal ultrasounds I was told that the baby could not be detected and I had miscarried naturally. 3 weeks later I had heavy
bleeding and very bad cramps which I thought was my period. coincidentally I was due for a follow up check up and was shocked to find out that I was 10 weeks pregnant with the same child which in fact I had never miscarried.  I was told that I had been bleeding internally for a number of days and doctors were shocked that I was still on my feet, let alone going to work and living life normally hehehe. anyway ....rushed into surgery after that and now recovering.

moral of the story .... 2 things ....
No. 1 - after a miscarriage you are supposed to get tested to see that your HCG levels are decreasing. unfortunately in my case this was not done and this mistake could have caused me my life.
No. 2 - my sister also had the same experience and had an ectopic pregnancy and lost her right tube. I have been told by my GP (and 2 other doctors agreed after that) that this could be due to a hereditary birth defect, thus both of us having the same problem in the same tube. it is important that we are open about such experiences with our family as this could help determine what the problem is or whether we may be at risk.

I am 28 years old and am lucky to still have 1 functioning tube and am very hopeful to have children in the  future, however should it be the case that I am not able to do so this does not mean that I am anything less than anyone else who has given birth. Stay positive friends! .... we are all on this earth for a reason and sometimes it is very different than what we were expecting or hoping for. I am getting married in 2 weeks and my partner is aware of the risk that we may not be able to have our own children but he is supportive .... if a man does not support you because of this than he is not for you.

I wish you all the best in life. be proud. be positive. be happy. xxxxx sincere love - Tina (Malta-Europe)

Patchesaw, late to the conversation, but I had my first ectopic at the end of 2011. I got pregnant February of 2013, and my rainbow baby was born November 13, 2013. Not all cases are the same, but I hope knowing it is possible gives you hope. Unfortunately I had a second ectopic in the spring of 2014, so I'm pretty sure I can't have more kids. But on the topic of the OP, I have severe pain on both sides near the front of my hips during the time I should be ovulating. Sometimes bad enough that it's close to the amount of pain I was in when my tubes ruptured. I'm curious of the medical explanation for the pain, so I'd love to know if anyone has found any info on that.

I had an ectopic pregnancy in 2000 (1 tube lost) and I had emergency surgery in 2014 due to an explosive and unusual ectopic pregnancy (second tube lost). I still hurt. Bleed heavy and have severe cramping. Since the surgery my right hip bone is constantly hurting. Cant lay on my right side or put any preasure on my right hip. Told my OBGYN and she is baffled. at this point, after 2 years, i have NO sex drive/female libido, and  dont care if i ever have children. Life is miserable. I wish my doctor would allow a full hystorectomy, but my insurance wont pay for it. Said I should have taken the chance when the 2nd surgery was done. Lost my opportunity. Her only answer to the pain, is that scar tissue is affected during my period. I have read every post on here. Thank you to the woman who had ectopic over 10 years ago. Good to know that this physical pain NEVER goes away! Wish my doctor would be as honest as you! I have learned from forums/other women that If you CAN get a full hystorectomy, do it. I wish i would have :(

Hi I am 27 and I had an ectopic pregnancy losing my left tube almost 6 years ago and I started having pain for almost two years now to the left side I have painful periods I bleed very heave and it's hard to walk it hurts to cough or sneeze or even laugh. It's very excruciating every month it happens like this three days before my period and almost 2 weeks after my period. I have went to the OB GYN and they have done nothing they only say to take birth control and it will stop the pain I haven't done that be cause I want answers to why I'm hurting every month. I went to the ER and had a cat scan it was normal. They suggested I go to a gastro doctor so I have a appointment tomorrow but I'm starting to have second chances about going because what if it's nothing to do with gastro idk I'm lost and confused and I'm just tired of hurting I want to know what's going on just like you I pray for your answers and healing as well as mine

I had a eptopic pregnancy & winded up having my ovary rupture & had it removed along with one of my tubes. I had to take chemo a few times and am still suffering from vaginal bleeding . Its been 5 months. It hasn't really let up. Haven't been back to a dr. & am tons of pain. I no longer live in the state where I had the surgery, what should I do?

I had an ectopic on 9/2/12. I was not even aware that i was pregnant. I called OB due to my spotting on and off for 3 weeks, and then sudden twinge pains. My preg test was positive, and an ultrasound revealed the pregnacy was in my right fallopian tube. OB sid i was about 7 weeks along and gave me 2 injections of MTX. I was in the hospital twice in one week with pain managment for horrible contrations that were debilitaing. A week and a half later my belly began to bloat, and i had a seizure. A short while after i couldnt breath without pain due to sharp pains in my shoulders. I was brought to the ER for the third time after my injection to get my 5th US, and a CT scan to rule out Pulmonary embolism. I was rushed to the OR due to the evidence of blood loss through US and blood tests. My tube had burst and there was 2 pints a blood in my belly, which explained my deferred pain in my shoulders. My Hemoglobin went from a 14 to a 5.8, and my hct was a 18. I needed two blood transfussions, and spent some time in the hospital. Apparently i was too far along to even receive MTX. It is now two months later and i have had two cycles. I am now around ovulation time and get severe sharp pains on my right side both months. I am hoping this isnt the only side i ovulate from. I had a miscarriage two years ago with evidence of blood and ovulation on my right side.  I have felt very down, overwhelmed, no sex drive, and no motivation. I am so sorry for any who has to go through this. My husband and i have a beautiful daughter whom is almost 5 years old and i am assuming that she was conceived on my left side. My right tube was removed, and i feel a little at peace that it cannot happen again in that tube. We pray that it is possible to have another child, but we are also very nervous due to the risk.

It's been almost a year now after my EP surgery. I had my left tube removed and ever since, I've been having alot of pain before my period. My sister had the same and she said," it takes a least 13-14 months to see signs of less pain". However, it is nornal, but if  you are experencing more pain than usual. Go see a doctor. I feel like it's getting worst for me since I'm getting older. I'm 35 yrs and still feel weak, tired and my tummy size and shape had not been the same. I also gained 10lbs after my surgery because I ate to relive my depressing and stress. I started going to the gym and changed my diet, but no change. I hope this helps. You're not alone!

I am worried. I have been bleeding for a little over two weeks with no pains or anything. I took a pregnancy test 6/15 (Friday) and was positive. I went to the ER on the following monday and found out I am RH negative. They gave me a shot and took my HCG levels they were 360.46. I went to an OB doctor thursday 3 days later and they didn't see anything in the uteris but I have a cyst on my left overy. My HCG levels that day only went up to 365.76. I am suppose to go back Monday morning to see whats going on. I am still bleeding but not as heavy and still no pains. They think it might be tubal. Would that be painful or not? Does anyone have advice. This is my first pregnancy.

I have lost both my fallopian tubes to ectopic pregnancies. I have suffered form extreme ovulation pain and period pain after this happen to me. I also get very tied and my boobs are very tender to touch as well. Its been nearly ten years since my 2 ectopic pregnancies (one after the other) and the pain hasn't got any better. I am now 27, I did IVF about 5 years ago and i hyper-stimulated and couldn't do an embryo transfer. This happen cause they gave me so much hormone drugs and i was so young. I have just come out of hospital as i got my appendix removed, they also found my ovary was stuck to my intestine from the ivf scaring (3 cm long) so I don't no if this had anything to do with the pain. I have had my period since and the pain is still there. Not much luck for me but I'm doing a frozen embryo transfer soon so wish me luck. We now have seven 5 day old embryos so fingers crossed. Good luck to you all.

I too had an ectopic in Sept. 2010.  Itw as my first pregnancy and very depressing.  I found out I was pregnant on August 18th and started bleeding on August 23rd.  I didn't find out it was an ectopic until September 14th and had surgery on September 16th to remove the pregnancy and my right tube.  Everything about my period has changed since my ectopic.  I went from a cycle of 29-23 days to 28-29 days consistantly.  My period used to last 4-5 days and now it is 5-7 days.  The flow is much heavier now on my heaviest days and my cramps are more severe than they used to be.  I NEVER spotted in between my periods and now I spot 2-3 days before my period.  I used to get sore breasts about 2 days prior to my period starting and up until this last cycle, I wasn't getting sore breasts at all.

My last period was on Jan. 18th and it was even different from the last few.  This time I bleed for 7 days (my longest so far), it was heavy for 3 days (usually only heavy for 2 days), light cramping (not even enough to take medication), and my breasts started hurting a couple of days before my period and have not stopped since.  In addition, I have been spotting at least 5-6 different times since my last period.  It is VERY light and only shows when I wipe.  I have also been getting some pains in my lower pelvic region over the past few days.

I am so confused because I have always had a very regulated and consistant period.  I don't know what to think.  My husband and I are TTC and have been trying since December.  Hope it happens soon, but I can't help but think about it all the time.

In July 2010 I had a positive pregnancy test after having pains in my stomach an bleeding, I attended the hospital to be told I had a ovarian cist and a positive pregnancy result , I was admitted and kept for 4days where I was told on four occasions I was still pregnant and then told I had miscarried eventually they discharged me and I was told I was no longer pregnant. I was in serious pain as I advised them but still I was discharged. Later that day I was back at the hospital (A different one) complaining of Pain in my shoulder and stomach plus still bleeding again my pregnancy test was positive they advised me they thought I was having a Eptopic and may need a op or the Met injection however after 7 days of serious pain and scans they too decided my pregnancy would pass on its own and they pain was down to the fact my cist had now ruptured and again discharged me. At 5am the next morning I woke up throwing up blood and In the worst pain in my life my mum rushed me too the hospital (The 3rd hospital) and I was scan they advised me I was having a Eptopic that my stomach was filled with blood and i would have to go to surgery straight away. Once i woke up from my OP I was informed my right tube had burst and has to be removed. Since my OP I have been back in the hospital twice complaining of pains and continue to get pain very often, my nipple on my left breast has been sore and cracked, I have random bleeding from time to time and before my period have the worst pain. My energy is low, I've experienced depression and have NO sex drive at all.......my doc claims this is all normal any suggestions ????

im going through eptopic now,Its Really hard considering im in a

overies.. i think i was only like 4 weeks but im unsure they gave
me methotrxete and pills for pain my levels in the beggining were
227 then i went back 188 then they called and told me 127 a few
days later im only 23 and have no kids my boyfriend has a 5 yr old
and shes mine ;) but i really want to have kids again after.. i think that
everything is going well so far except i have bad pain but its mostly because im really constipated and cannot go to the bathroom it hurts so bad sometimes that i havet to take a bath the toilet is right next to the tub yet i still find myself having the worst pain just to straighten my back out im really deppressed and keep putting myself down because i feel like i did something wrong like my body or im not even good enough i see all these young women old women having kids that do not even take care of them or they are baby's having baby's..
i was pregnant once before and never really thought about it but i was bleeding and i had a misscarrige i dont think it was eptopic but i really hope that after this 2 or 3 years down the line i was hoping to get pregnant anyone think i would be able to have a child at all after this.. im sitting here reading all these comments and not one has resulted in a happy ending.

shanlove, call your doctor and tell them what it happening.  Call their after-hours number and a doc should call you back, and will tell you if you need to be seen.

I don't think the "dying in pain" is normal, but it might be something to do with your ovary swelling with ovulation, so it might not be serious, just painful.  But really only a doctor can tell you.  Good luck!
