Am I having a miscarriage?

Hello!

I found out on 12/12/08 that I was pregnant (about 4 wks).  The nurse told me my hcg level was 205 and i was pregnant.  So she told me to come back in 12/16/08 (about 5 wks)for another blood draw.  The hcg levels for that day was 385.  My doc was a little worried so he had me go back today and my hcg levels are 476.  He's telling me that I'm either going to be a "high risk miscarriage" or "ectopic pregnancy".  So I see him Monday for another blood draw and for an ultrasound to check viability.

I looked at majority of the websites on hcg levels on the internet and my levels were "normal/with in range", could my doc be wrong?  or am I just in serious denial?

any help?

Hello All!

Thank you for the information and support!!

I did have a miscarriage on 12/20/08.  I started bleeding and passed some tissue by noon.  Called my doc and he had me come in for levels.  I plateaued at 478 (2 days before 476).  I was sad but was aware this was to happen.  I'm glad my doc did not give me false hope.

My husband was diagnosed with AML Leukemia M-4 in 2006.  He's in remission and continues to get stronger everyday.  With this experience we now know that we are able to get pregnant as in before the doc gave us a 2% chance.  It's been a long bumpy road and We are lucky.

THANK YOU EVERYONE AND HAVE A HAPPY HOLIDAY!!

The above posters are correct that the reason for concern is that the numbers are not doubling.  It is one thing to be in range but since everyone is different, that is not what is used to make sure your pregnancy is healthy.  I am sorry for your bad news... I had a miscarriage in March (well, I've had 4 total) but the one then my numbers were going up but not doubling.  I eventually miscarried at 9 wks.

Hi there. I know for me with my last m/c my numbers only went up 30 numbers. My ob told me he looks at the numbers doubling but he does not live by the numbers. Some women like myself just have low numbers. I hope you go in and your numbers are where they should be. Until then I would try to take it easy and not think the worst. I know it's easier said than done. As long as you are not spotting or having heavy long last cramping you shouldn't worry. If you are concerned get a 2nd opinion it can't hurt. Best wishes to you and good luck!

Unfortunately that is what was happening to me and my doc said that i could expect in the next week or so that i would miscarry. I too was in denial and thought what would she know so early on but she was right. Within the 2 weeks i had problems and miscarried. I'm not saying this is definately going to happen to you but the doctors do know what they are talking about and your HCG levels aren't looking to great. My levels were going up like yours but they weren't doubling like they are meant to. Sorry i couldn't say No your definately not going to miscarry but i keep my fingers crossed for you. You always have support of everyone on here they are great.

I'm sorry for you that you are going through this.  All is know about HCG levels is that for a viable pregnancy they should be doubling every 24-48 hours and it seems that for you, they are increasing but not doubling.  I don't know what that will mean for your pregnancy but i wish you all the best!!
