Continous Bleeding 3 months after D&C

HI,
I had a miscarriage at 8 weeks and had a D&C done on 4/25/08.
This is a brief history of what has happened since then

4/25 - D&C
6/6 - First period - normal bleeding - lots of cramping.
Spotting started around the 18th  - very light
6/28 - 2nd period - normal bleeding - lasted for about 4-5 days.
7/2 ~ 7/14 - Spotting throughout the period. Not very heavy.
7/14- 3rd period. Lots of cramping. Lasted for about 5 days.

7/21 - Light spotting again.
7/22 - Spotting with cramps. Blood clots
7/23 - almost another period - pretty heavy bleeding, cramps, nausea, lots of clots in blood.

I had gone to my doctor on 7/16. She sent me for some blood tests and I am still awaiting the results. Also, I have an u/s scheduled for tomorrow.
My question is that is this normal for after a D&C. I am very worried. Please help!!!

Thanks.
Meera

Hi everyone,
Just an update.... So i went to the doctor - had an ultrasound and a few blood tests done - my HcG levels were a little high in the tests done on 7/16- but then I passed a lot of clots around the 22 and 23rd. Went for an u/s after that, which came back normal - and also had another blood test on 7/29 - in which my HcG levels came down to 2. So I guess it was just residual tissue or something which came out on the 22-23rd.
No spotting/bleeding after that - and I hope it remains like that, because I really want a baby soon...;-)
Hope you feel better alfredohdz - I would also suggest you call your doctor as soon as possible so that they can rule out that nothing is wrong. My doctor did seem a bit alarmed initially with the amount of blood I was passing and how often I was bleeding/spotting.
Take care and I will pray for you...

I always say when in doubt at all, contact your Dr.  It certainly never hurts anything, and putting your mind at ease is worth so much.  You could be having some breakthrough bleeding or spotting or again, something could have been left behind.  Its just impossible to say without medical advice.  I know personally, I never mess around and just make an appointmnet.  Always better safe then sorry.  I am sorry for your loss, and hope you are doing well. Take care and best of luck to you.

Hi, Im sorry for your loss. I too had a D&C on June21st and Im experiencing somewhat the same as you.

June 21- D&C
July 21- first period, heavy the first day but normal the following 4-5 days
August 1 - spotting
Today August 6 - still spotting, have had just 1 small blood clot but the spotting is bright red.
Is this normal?....should I contact my DR. or is this too soon and just part of the recovery?

Thanks

thanks everybody... and am soooo sorry for your losses.
I'll try not to worry too much. the u/s is scheduled for 2 PM today - doubt will know too much from that and my doctor is out on vacation dr is out on vacation and is supposed to get back to me with the test results on Monday - so its going to be another stressful weekend for me. Will keep you girls updated...
Besides the physical discomfort it is very frustrating because we want to have a baby now - perhaps I need to be pregnant again to give closure to the miscarriage.
Take care....

I have had two D&C's in the last 6 months, and I can tell you that it can take awhile for your body to "regulate" itself again.  3 months is a bit long, and its good you have gone for medical advice.  It is always a possiblility that some tissue was left behind and that is what is causing the clots, nausea, etc.  Your bloodwork will tell them if there is HCG left in your system, and they may want to do an ultrasound as well.  I have also heard of women needing to take a drug for a short time to help things get back to normal.  Whatever the case may be, please don't worry too much.  A D&C is a relatively simple procedure, and very rarely has negative side effects, so its just more likely that your hormones are out of whack.  The minor surgery combines with the stress and emotional trauma of a miscarriage can really send your body on a rollercoaster ride.  Take good care of yourself, and I have no doubt all is going to be fine.  All the best to you.
