Doctors wrongly diagnosed mcs in ireland

Hi there

I had a mc in april my d&c was on the 21 after a silent mc. It was my first ivf and first pregnancy . My dh and me were devasdated and are looking forward as best we can were starting ivf this month again!! We live in Ireland and it was on the news all week how women who went to the early pregnancy units were told their babies were dead at 8 to 10 weeks that there was no heart beat but they insisted on second opinions and there instincts turned out to be right as at the second scan they saw a heartbeat . Mh problem is that I was told at 10 half weeks that my baby stopped growing at 8 weeks AND  I didn't have a second scan!! I hope to god they got it right with me but I'm filled with dread thinking what if there wrong !!! Am just so upset any comments would be grealty received

I'm so sorry for you loss, I had a missed/silent mc, I was 12 weeks along but the fetus had stopped growing at 7 and a half weeks.  I knew there was no mistake as my periods were regular and I had tested the day before my period was due and got a positive, so my dates were correct.  I did thought have sudden doubts the day before the D&C procedure and I think this is natural, however I didn't request a second scan because as I said I knew my dates were right and I'd had no bleeding etc.

It's best to try not to dwell on the ones where mistakes have been made.  I should think that as you went through IVF your dates would have been spot on, also a heartbeat should have shown on an ultrasound even if you had only been 8 weeks.

Going through this has been one of the hardest things I've ever gone through and my heart goes out to you.  Things do get easier though, you'll never forget but the pain does ease a little.
