First miscarriage but saw a heartbeat same day!

Hi All

I can't believe I'm writing on here only a few hours after seeing my baby's heartbeat....
I was 7 weeks 3 days pregnant when I woke to find I was spotting red blood, only a little with back ache. Since it was my first pregnancy I freaked a little and went to the hospital. They advised I have an internal ultrasound done just to check things out as I was still early on in the pregnancy. I had it done, saw my little baby and a strong heartbeat. All looked well and the midwife said the spotting can be very normal. Great I thought.....

An hour and a half later when at home, I started with heavy cramping and period like pain in both my stomach and back. I went to the toilet to find heavy bleeding and what looked like a little clotting. The doctor advised I go straight to the ward. The pain got worse and so did the bleeding, I was filling period pads quicker than I could have imagined. I was examined internally and externally by the doctor who said she thought I was having a failed pregnancy. We waited to see what happened and she advised depending what happened I could try some tablets to quicken the process or have a d&c if things didn't happen naturally. One hour later when I was examined again, my cervix had fully closed but I was still bleeding and cramping. She said this could either be that the miscarriage had happened (although she said this would have been a big suprise has it happended SO quickly) or that the baby could be fine and that I just had a heavy bleed. My periods are very heavy normally and it was like one but a little worse with more clotting. So now I have to go back for another internal ultrasound tomorrow to see if either the pregnancy has come away by itself, if some of it has and there is still some left or if a miracle has happened and the baby appears to be fine.

I don't think I'm particularly asking any questions and thought I might feel better writing this out. We are so upset thinking our pregnancy is over. Has anyone had a similar experience? Many thanks for any replies.

Thanks hun, you're totally right we do always think of the worst outcome don't we. With how much I've lost I doubt it could be anything but a miscarriage. And the pain was terrible. But my doctor seemed amazed how quickly it all turned around and how quickly my cervix closed. It's 5.30am in the morning here in the UK and I'm exhausted! I managed to get four hours sleep before waking and remember what happened hours ago.....now I can't sleep! I think I must look like a walking wreck cos that's what I feel like anyway.

I will come on and post later today when I've been for the second ultrasound. Think me and my partner know what's coming so we're prepared for the worst (well, a little prepared). He's been fab, my parents and brother too x
