A friend of mine is a delivery-room nurse, and she said that once in a very great while, someone comes in with an ectopic pregnancy and they never CAN find it. They know it is not in the uterus, so the pregnancy would not be able to progress safely (people can die from ectopics), but after looking and looking, they cannot find it. My thought is, if she has not had an MRI of the abdomen, she should. They should be able to find something irregular. Given that the hCG numbers are so low, it is also possible that some of the placental tissue is still attached somewhere, and is continuing to be vascular (i.e., with blood flowing in and out), which will continue to produce hCG readings. It does seem she should take the methotrexate again, in hopes of making this stop, so there will not be any risk to her from tissue growing in a tight spot and rupturing a blood vessel. Please stop calling it a cancer drug. It was designed for use with another disease, and it stops the growth of fast-dividing cells. It will not give her cancer. If the metho works, she will be lucky, because continual signs that she has an active ectopic are pretty clear warnings to her. I would insist on an abdominal MRI.
I am sorry u r going through this. Is it possible the baby attached somewhere else? I have heard of them attaching outside the uterus. Good luck to u and hope u have answers soon.
