Miscarriage symptoms. what is going on?

I am 10 weeks pregnant with my 4th child. On started out of the blue I started having heavy bleeding. Heavier than a period and it started with a bit of a gush. I went to the ER. They examined me, said my cervix was open and that I had miscarried. They even wrote "spontaneous abortion" on my discharge paper and told me to follow up with my doctor. Well my heavy bleeding lasted several hours and then tapered off to more of a period like bleeding. As it tapered off I did start feeling a bit crampy and by the next morning I was only spotting but still feeling crampy. Unable to be seen by an ob doctor anytime soon, I finally decided to go back to the ER and see if they could tell me anything else. The ER doctor, who didn't pretend to know much about ob, did an ultrasound and there we saw a baby, kicking and squirmingwith a nice heartbeat. He did not try to guess what had happened. He did say my hcg had dropped from 106,000 on my ffirst visit, to 86,000 on my second. Anyone had a similar experience? I'm still worried and its another week before I get to see my doctor. What could cause this to happen? I'm afraid it will happen again. But so far no more bleeding or cramping.b

Yes cervix is closed now
No we weren't aware of there being twins. I had not seen a doctor prior to this. And we saw no evidence of twins, or anything else suspicious on the u/s after the bleeding episode. I've now had 3 ultrasounds and everything appears perfectly normal. My hcg was 106,000 my first trip to er when the bleeding began and 3 days later was down to 88,480. When I saw the ob another 3 days later it had dropped even more, but the nurse told me I had probably just reached the point in my pregnancy where it begins to drop and the baby looks totally healthy. I am measuring large for my date but the baby is measuring right on track.

How's your cervix? Is it closed now? Do you know for sure you were carrying twins? What was your initial b-hCG #?  Could also be SCH and a number of other things. You need to be seen by an OB soon, not good to have the cervix open... Plenty of bed rest before you can be seen for next u/s.  Good luck & take care!

The doctor thinks it was from a vanishing twin. Had an ultrasound and baby looks great. However one week after my initial scare, I've started spotting, sometimes very mild, sometimes a little heavier. The doc said since it's brown it's probably just old blood from before.. Still scary! Counting the days until my next u/s!!

er doctors don't know s*** I'm not trying to offend anybody whatsoever but they just they give you with misleading information they told me I had a subchorionic hemorrhage in I was at really high risk for miscarry but didn't tell me what I was supposed to do to prevent miscarriage what I was supposed to do to help myself so that I don't um and and I told me they'd only write me a doctors note if I started bleeding super super heavy why is that what we're trying to avoid I went to my regular OB everything is fine my babies a lot it has grown from the last time so don't worry search yourself this side it is a little concerning that your levels have dropped but maybe it's just because you're getting further in your pregnancy and that's where they're supposed to be check up with your doctor in a week you pretty much know if you have a miscarriage it's the most painful experience and you will pass something most horrific in the world
