Need help to understand

Hi All, Well I`m no spring chicken at 38 but just got married and wanted to start a family.  Miscarried at 10 weeks in January after scan showed abnormally slow developing baby.  Pregnant again in october and miscarried again at the beginning of December at approx 9 weeks. Scan showed small baby for dates, then I started bleeding and lost it.  Was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes as soon as I fell pregnant after being told 4 weeks before that I definitely was not.  Also have IBS and thought that hormones might be the cause of the multiple miscarriages.  Anyone got any ideas?  Could it be hormones? If it is can I do anything to help.  the Drs do not seem to be interested and I have had no bloods taken in the second pregnancy at all in 10 weeks.  They won`t investigate possible causes until I have a third miscarriage and for obvious reasons I`d rather try to do something to help before we have to go through this heartache again.

Any advice much appreciated.

Ask your doctor for a referral to a fertility specialist. That's what I did after my first miscarriage since I also have a short luteal phase, low thyroid, ulcerative colitis, and high blood pressure (ie, very high risk).

While I really like my high risk OB, her schedule is always booked 2 - 3 weeks out. The fertility clinic on the other hand can always see me immediately and go out of their way to make me feel like they want to help me despite only 1 miscarriage.

They have done all of my bloodwork and ultrasounds for this pregnancy so far and are very proactive in prescribing supplements like progesterone.

Anyway, I'm so sorry you're going through all of this. I hope you're able to find a doctor who'll listen to you. Good luck!

I'm so sorry you are going through all of that, it's not easy having one miscarriage let alone multiple!  My first suggestion is get a second opinion/dr!

With my last pregnancy that ended in miscarriage I had no blood work done, no scans, nothing.  I had one internal exam and nothing more.  I had a little blood when I wiped one day and made an apt they did an exam and ultrasound, had they done blood tests and/or an ultrasound they would have cough it sooner.

I meet with a certified nurse midwife and she sees you right away once you get the positive results as well as does an ultrasound and blood work at the first visit.  She also does ultrasounds at every visit that you don't hear the heartbeat, even for those who didn't have miscarriages.  I think you need to find a dr that's willing to listen and ease your questions.  Most if not all dr's will have a Meet and Great where you can ask them questions and decide if there the right dr for you.

They did testing on the tissue from my D&C but told me that they don't do more than that until you have had the three miscarriages.  Some dr's will do more if you have a medical history that may make some things more common.  If you or someone in your family has a history of blood clots then they may test for that.  If you find another dr they may not do all the tests until 3 miscarriages, however they may do ones relevant to your medical history.
