Outrageous theory.. brown clots

So I am 19 weeks pregnant at the moment. At 16 weeks I experienced some brown discharge/ blobs and was sent for a scan. Everything at the scan was fine... baby healthy and happy, placenta and cervix all good. Now the last few days I have had much more brown discharge/clots and very mild cramps. My midwife assures me that the baby is still fine and because it is brown 'stuff' it isn't a worry. Hmm well sorry but I AM WORRIED!

I have had 2 early miscarriages prior to this pregnancy and I can tell you that the consistency of the 'stuff' coming out is quite similar to that of early miscarriage fetal matter! I am off to my GP tomorrow for a second opinion.

I feel this baby move and kick all day so I know my 19 week baby is fine but this is NOT normal.  Wouldn't you agree?

O.K so my outrageous theory is this... Could I have been carrying twins early on and not know and then one died early on but it is only now being expelled from my body? Prob not right? It would have just reabsorbed if that was the case? rather than being expelled 19 weeks later??? hmmmmmm.

I would love some suggestions as to what this brown clotty stuff is! It's often quite dry, not saturated in discharge, sort of sticky, almost rubbery small lumps. OMG sorry that must sound GROSS

Thanks for reading :) Hoping for some answers OR for this 'stuff' to stop freaking me out soon. :)

i would seriously go get another opinion from another doctor! i've had two m/cs as well and some say brown spotting is normal but it has to be like less than a quarter size if your filling up a pad you need to go to the emergency, but to me it sounds like a m/c.. I HOPE NOT! i hope everything is okay! but i would most def go get checked out by another doctor atleast to make sure! hope all is well!! take care!

Anything is possible, including your theory about the vanishing twin.  It certainly isn't unheard of.

Bleeding in pregnancy is never considered normal, but is fairly common.  In my healthy pregnancy, I had a hematoma that bled itself out and then later on a small placental tear that caused some bleeding.  The tear was monitored, but fortunately never got any worse.  The hematoma bled itself out and never caused any problems.  So it could be something like that, and your body is only now expelling the blood, hence the brown color.

It's hard to say.  So many times this happens and we never really find any explanation.  I do absolutely think you are wise to see your Dr. and have this investigated further, but the fact that you have a strong fetal heartbeat and movement are great signs.  But I agree...see your Dr. and if it were me, I would want this monitored fairly closely until it stopped.  I would bet this turns out fine though.  Take care.

No it is not normal and I would seek a second opinion.  It could be a number of things causing the brown spotting but either way it needs to be investigated and treated.  I hope u will find another dr.  Good luck
