Robitussin for Increased CM

I'm sorry, I really can't remember who asked, but here you go:

Robitussin works on the cervical mucus and increases your chances of getting pregnant
Robitussin is a popular brand of cough syrup and it might be surprising to consider its relation with fertility. But the fact is that this expectorant is used to loosen and thin mucus of a different kind too, called cervical mucus, in women. Robitussin is only a specific brand and any expectorant that contains guaifenesin as the only active ingredient can be used in its place. Generic versions are most likely available as well. Be sure to carefully inspect the ingredients list to make sure the ONLY active ingredient as guaifenesin. Any other ingredients can diminish the effect you are looking for.

What is the recommended dose of Robitussin?
The recommended dose for improving cervical mucus is two teaspoons (200 mg) taken orally three times per day. Recommended dosage is two teaspoons (200 mg) taken orally three times per day. If mucus still appears thick, you can take as the maximum dosage as listed on the label of the cough medicine. Water intake should be increased to encourage cervical mucus production and a full glass should take with each dose of guaifenesin.

If you re taking Clomid (clomiphene citrate, Serophene) as an ovulation inductor, it may help to know that it can cause hostile mucus in 30 percent or more of women using it. Higher doses of Clomid tend to be more associated with less cervical fluid and a thinner uterine lining, than the 50 mg dose and Robitussin can help to reverse this.

What cycle days should I take Robitussin?
Most doctors suggest taking Robitussin five days before and including the day of ovulation for a total of 6 days during your cycle. This helps provide the optimal environment to help the sperm survive and get to where they need to go.If you take Clomid, waiting until the day after the last Clomid pill is taken before starting Robitussin is suggested.

I don't google much anymore when it comes to pg or anything reffering to it. I told my old ob about percents of women who have the nuchel translucency test done and find they have no hb and he almost hit the roof. He asked for the website etc. He asked me to stay off of it for the duration of my pg. Not that the info you get is wrong ;but you never know the source of some of what you read and it can cause major confusion and so unless they have a license to be a dr I'm sticking with the man in a white jacket with md following his name...LOL. Although it doesn't always mean they are right either. I think it depends on the situation. You can find alot of useful info. I could go on all day you catch my drift!

A/P - it's amazing what you will find when you google infertility.  I've been at this for a while and just now found out about the Geritol thing.

Thanks - as soon as I win the lottery, I'll follow my hearts desire :)  Until then I'm just a numbers cruncher and fact finder.

A/P - My OB/GYN actually recommended it.  It doesn't just loosen your "nose mucus" , but all mucus as well.  As always, the most important thing is NOT to take after ovulation (just like EPO).  It's also VERY important that you get the kind that guaifenesin is the main active ingredient and nothing else.  Any woman attempting to increase their CM through "alternative" methods, should absolutely be doing OPK's or CM checking.  They should also have their dr's approval.  If in any doubt, ALWAYS call your dr first!

Bam- What does your RE specialist say about this? I'm not debating you on it but I can't figure out where the correlation can be since you are not allowed to take it at all when you are pg? Interesting though.....

Lori - I'm telling you, I have left no stone unturned.  I've spent so much time researching everything I can possibly think of.  I just wish they had TTC as a class in college - I could ace that for sure!

But in all seriousness, if you're not taking a pre-natal, the Geritol does seem like a pretty good option.  Oh and you can't possibly be old - you're younger then my husband!!  Ha - maybe I should get the Geritol for him (which is also recommended)!

Lori - I don't know the answer to that question.  Maybe start taking it 1 or 2 days later that what is suggested above?

Hey, btw did you know that Geritol Complete is also supposed to be some miracle baby maker?  I've just been doing some googling on it.  Can't really find out why - but a lot of people are saying "there is a baby in every bottle".  Just thought that was interesting.
