Severe abdominal pain during miscarriage

I am in the process of my second natural miscarriage. My first one was about 8 months ago and I had to take meds to start the process.  This one I had already begun by the time o went to the doctor so I knew what to expect.  I had a lot of tissue and clots pass yesterday and figured the worst was passed, however I got woken up in the middle of the night with severe strong abdominal pains.  They are intermediate with not a lot of bleeding.  If you don't have a high pain tolerance it would be unbearable.  My doc had given me a script for pain meds, but don't seem to be touching this pain.  Is this normal?  I had severe pain like this last time, but it was when I was passing a lot of tissue.  Please let me know. Thank you
