Should I monitor my pregnancy after a miscarriage

Hi all

I have been speaking to a lot of my friends on medhelp and I am left a bit confused.
My history
I have had two healthy pregnancies, a boy 3 and a girl 1.  I am 26 years old.  Between my son and daughter I had a false positive but never really thought anything of it.  I did have a heavy af with a tiny bit of tissue after my false positive.  The strange thing is I got a very faint positive and then I went to the doc a few days later and it was negative.  I was absolutely devastated but he said I wasn't pregnant so I forgot about it.

Anyways I then fell pregnant with my daughter and she is now 1.  This year I fell pregnant with a little boy in January.  My pregnancy was going fine apart from thrush which I had ever since I fell pregnant.  I went for my scan at 7 weeks, 5 days and saw my little bean, his heart beat was fine.  When I was 14 weeks pregnant I had pink discharge when I wiped.  I saw my midwife and she said not to worry unless it was red  and I had cramping.  To make a long story short the next night my son was out to find he had passed between 10-11 weeks.  I passed him naturally and I had no cramping what so ever, I just felt a bit uncomfortable with a sore back but apart from that I didn't have any real signs or symptoms I was going to miscarry.

During May my husband and I didn't try to fall pregnant and I got my first af on the 20th May.  We then decided to try again and fell pregnant straight away.  I am  now 5 weeks pregnant.  After all thatmy question is.... should I monitor my pregnancy such as hcg levels rising and should I go for an ultrasound.  Originally I told my doctor I didn't want any monitoring and he said to go back at 11 weeks.  I guess I am petrified I will go to an ultrasound and my baby would have passed. I was so fortunate with my son in the fact I didn't know there was a serious problem until 3 hours before he came out when I was gushing - I hope that makes sense.

What would you recommend??  Am I being stupid about not wanting to be monitored or is it understandable??? I am so confused!!!  I am not talking about having blood tests every 3 days or ultrasounds every week but maybe fortnightly blood results.

Any advice would be helpful

Thank you so much for your replies.  I did have a missed miscarriage.  The doctor I saw wasn't my normal doctor, he was just a doctor that you don't have to make an appointment to see.  He asked me what I wanted to do next and I said nothing so he was like ok if that's what you want then come back at 11 weeks.

I guess the only reason I am having second thoughts is because the night before last I had a dream I had miscarried this baby.  I dreamt that I started bleeding and I was holding him in my hands.  It was pretty scary and just made me think.  I am so scared and I don't know what I want to do but your advice was very nice.

I think I might go and see my normal doctor and see what she thinks I should do.

Thank you

They may want to monitor your HCG levels as well as your progesterone levels.  Speak with you provider and see what their plan is.  If you feel uncomfortable about their plan then look around for another provider.  They also may want to do more ultrasounds since it sounds like you had a missed miscarriage.  So sorry for you recent loss but I hope this baby is extra extra sticky.
