Spotting 5 weeks after miscarriage

I had a miscarriage 5 week ago. I started spotting about 5 days ago. It is light pink and brown when i wipe. Is it normal to have this spotting a few weeks after a  miscarriage? I have been to the doctor and was told that my cervix is closed and everything is okay. Is it possible that this is a period or could it be that my period is coming? I dont think i ever spotted before.

Hi Aquafina324,
Have you seen a doctor? It sounds like your symptoms have been lasting for a long time, esp. since you are still having some pain. I don't want to scare you, but if you keep having pain or heavy bleeding, you should go see a Dr. to make sure there aren't complications. There are some complications like a tubal pregnancy or a molar pregnancy that can be dangerous or even life threatening.

My doc told me that although some women might spot for up to 4 weeks after a m/c, it is not normal for heavy bleeding/pain to last much longer than a regular period (at least for an early m/c @ 6 weeks, not sure about later ones). Mine has been lasting since Apr 24, like you, and my doc is sending me for tests to make sure there aren't any complications.

I'm sorry for your loss. Most women experience cycle changes which are a side affect of having a m/c. It can change dates or the actual period itself. It could be your period or just bleeding before or even alittle left over lining from the m/c. I would wait and see if you don't bleed again for another month than that was your period if you begin bleeding again shortly than that is your period. I was always told by my previous obgyn that the first day you begin your m/c is the first day of your cycle and that for the 1st two weeks after a m/c you are really fertile. Have you been ttc in the window while waiting for your period. Did you take a hpt to make sure? Best wishes to you and good luck.
