can i have a healthy baby after 2 non-consecutive m/c

Hi Everyone

I have to say i have never been on these forums before but reading all of your posts is very helpful.

I have just had my second m/c.  My first m/c was an early miscarriage which i had at home naturally at 9 weeks, then i went on to have a gorgeous little girl in 2005, then we had waited ages to have another due to various issues but we got pregnant within 3 months of coming off contraceptive pill.  We went for the 12 week scan, which turned out to be 13w2days, baby was perfect, had a healthy heartbeat and everything was fine.  Then i went to the midwife for the normal 16w check up and she couldn't find the heartbeat.....................she sent me for a scan which showed the baby's heart was no longer beating. It had died at 13w 5d,  I went home on that Friday night and just shut myself in my house, we just sobbed. I went back to hospital on "Good Friday" to have a natural labour induced.  It was awful, i have to say the worst day of my life so far.  I had to stay in over night becuase i had lost so much blood and the placenta got stuck so ended up in theatre.  it was just plain awful.

All i wanted was to get home to my little girl.

Has anyone else had m/c, then healthy baby, then m/c and then gone on to have another healthy baby.  My partner and i just aren't sure we can go through that again.

You could ask to have your blood tested for antiphospholipid syndrome.  Women with this disorder are more likely to have a miscarriage but there are steps you can take during your pregnancy to prevent it from happening. (aspirin, heparin)  Unfortunately most doctors dont think to test for this.  I'm very sorry for your loss.

Hi thanks for your messages.

no we haven't found out what happened, it only happened just over a week ago, you have to have 3 consecutive m/c's before they look into it. They just say its one of those things, which i know is the truth but it still doesn't help much.

I'm sorry for your losses. I have had a miscarriage I was 13 weeks pregnant and has seen a heart beat on 4 different ultrasounds. It's been 3 yrs since the miscarriage and I am pregnant again and everything is going good so far but I'm only 5w1d right now. I asked the dr about having a normal pregnancy and she said that just because I had a miscarriage does not make my chances of another much higher. She said almost every women will have a miscarriage or two in there life time. My dr has had 18 miscarriages and PCOS so she knows first hand how much it hurts. She told me to not think about my last miscarriage. But easier said than done.

I'm sure many people have gone through this. I am not one of them but I just wanted to say that I'm very sorry for your loss. I'm currently 13 weeks 4 days and that is my worst nightmare. Did they ever find what happened?

First off, I am so sorry for your both of your losses. Yes there are many women that have had more then 2 m/c's and go on to have healthy babies afterwards. I've never been pregnant, so I can't speak from expierence....but I do have a friend who was pregnant last year with twins and lost them at 5 months. She is currently 16 weeks pregnant again and everything is looking good. So don't give up on hopes of another baby.
