missed miscarriage

Natural, tablets inserted thru vagina near cervix to open cervix, or d&c? Which did you choose? What was your experience?

I just found out my baby stopped developing at around 6 weeks. Dr said if I don't miscarry within 2 weeks I can either do the tablets or d&c.

Hey there, I am sorry to hear about your loss :(  I didn't chose either initially, I wanted to miscarry naturally at home, However, I did not get my wish, Some women including me have trouble passing all the tissue and then ALOT of bleeding occurs, this happened to me twice which ended up with me passing out in hospital and having to have the D&C anyways, the D&C procedure itself obviously carried some risk but these are minimal, the risk are that you may have scarring inside, or that they could poke a hole in your uterus, which heals itself, the benefits of the tabs however, is that they give you pain medication and you are more in control of things also that you dont have to have a general anaesthetic either. I would recommend the tabs just to avoid going through surgery, but the bleeding and such stops faster afte the D&C, I hope this helps you chose and I wish you luck, and I hope if you try again you get the baby you want :) x

I would strongly recommenced a D&C. I was fortunate enough that on my second miscarriage everything passed naturally, but I was fully prepared to get another D&C instead of those tablets that are inserted.

For my first mc, the doctor has prescribed me those tablets to do on my own... They were very painful (basically labour pains)  and they didn't end up working properly, which I didn't know about at first. I ended up asking for a second ultrasound, there was still tissue so again I took the tablets (4 weeks later). I went for a third ultrasound, they still didn't work fully work (1 week later). Eventually 6 weeks after my mc, when I thought I was in my recovery stage I had to relive it all again and this time I demanded a D&C. The procedure was very quick, little bit of pain/ bleeding, but my procedure was scheduled for 8 p.m., I was done at 8:35, my husband picked me up I went home packed and left for Disney Land (flight) the next morning. I felt fine after it all, other than my emotions- since I thought it was finished, but really it hadn't even started.

It took me a few months to get my cycle back on track and within 6m I was pregnant again. So, that is my experience, I know I personally will never touch those tablets again, but that is just me and I am sure many people have great success with them. I wish you good luck and a quick recovery- let me know if there is anything else I can help you with!

I have done both.  For me, even with the tablets I wound up needing a D&C, but that is not normally the case.

I do prefer D&Cs as when done properly they rarely come with complications.  I also like the fact that your body gets back to normal very quickly..recovery physically is quick and easy.  However, it is important to know that in some cases a D&C can cause scar tissue which can interfere with future pregnancies.  It doesn't happen often, but it can happen.

Taking the tablets speeds things up and for most is a relatively smooth and easy process.

It is a personal decision.  For me, I have had 3 D&C's now with no problem (at least that I am aware of).  Talk to your Dr. and he or she can help you decide on what the best choice is for you.

I am sorry for your loss.

Thanks ladies for sharing. I have some difficult decisions to make & I wanted to hear others experiences with what they were dealt with or chose to do. With my 1st 2 miscarriages I naturally miscarried at 3 1/2 weeks & 7 weeks. I bled quite a bit, passing lots of tissue & clots but with all my follow ups everything did pass.  I'm just over 10 weeks pregnant but my baby stopped growing arouns 6 1/2 weeks. My body still thinks its pregnant so all my symptoms are going strong which stinks. It looks as though my body doesn't want to give this baby up even tho it has already died. Sigh. Thanks again.
