I don't want to scare you but yes. I was in labor for 43 hrs with my oldest baby my son and I ended up with a c-section. He was 9lbs and 4 ozs big and 22 inches long. Yes a toddler. Omg he was huge. I was in post partum and began hemorrhage. I remember a student dr on my bed pushing down on my belly while the nurse was holding my hand and taking my pulse and the dr at my legs. I passed out. I guess they took me back in to the or. I had a huge blood clott that was causing my uterus to fill up with blood if my nurse hadn't checked my pad I would have died in mins. My mother was horrified and asked my dr what happens if my daughter wants more children will this happen again? He said no it was a fluke thing and thank god she is alive in these times because the methogen saved her life. If it was the days before modern medicine your daughter would have died in childbirth. I had 2 more children and nope no problems during birth. I had complications after but nothing like that. It's something that we over look daily. Child birth is very dangerous. I'm in panic mode with all the complications I have been having with this baby so far bleeding yikes I hope I'm getting the worst out of the way. I'm really spinning. I hope I didn't scare you I just wanted to share my story.....That was a great question...
Hugs,
AP

It's so funny that you posted this.  I am a huge Nicholas Sparks fan, and when I was pregnant with my son I got one of his books.  Well it has a pregnant woman who is scared the whole time that her baby is in danger only to die in childbirth.  I love his books because I always cry but end up with a happy feeling, but that book definitely made me a little nervous.  It was just bad timing, but I had no idea what happened.  Anyway, don't worry about it.  As everyone has said, it is a rare occurence.

Hmm, I've never heard of any of those authors?  I'm a creature of habit and usually stick with things I've read before.  I have alot of Pearl S. Buck and James Clavell.  They both have historical asian themed fiction.

I also got into Lemony Snickett's Series of Unfortunate Events, which are children's books and when I really feel I need something wholesome and soul cleansing I read the Mitford Series, which is about an older priest (or pastor? I don't remember what religion it is).

I'm starting back up at school now for another 12 weeks, so I'll just be reading text books for now :(  The joys of managerial accounting - LOL

I was never interested in reading the series, but i had nothing to read and my mother gave me the first book.  She only read it because she likes all the vampire stuff.  It's not real mushy, it's really easy reading because it's aimed at the teen genre, but I really got hooked fast.  I'm usually reading Iris Johanssen, Kay Hooper, Harlan Coben, Jonathon Kellerman.  You get the idea.  I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it and can't wait for her to get me the second book.  I wasn't sure about Harry Potter at first either, but I ended up really enjoying that too.  If you have a co-worker willing to give up the first book, you should give it a shot.

I have a couple co-workers pushing me to start the Twilight series.  But I just don't know.  Is it mushy love story ish?  I hate that.  One of my best friends is a romance novel addict and she gives me tons of them every few months.  I refuse to read romance novels - so they all end up at Goodwill.  I don't have the heart to tell her I don't want them.

I think I'm waiting on 14 right now.  I saw a new between the numbers one at Barnes and Noble the other night.  I am waiting on my mom to come over and bring me the second book in the Twilight series.  She better hurry!

I love them!  Do you remember what number she is on now?  I don't think I've read it yet?  I'm in the midst of rereading the Harry Potter series - AGAIN - for like the 10th time :0

You know, I didn't even think of that.  I wait for every new number to come out (especially since I'm a jersey girl and I live an hour away from Trenton!)

If you want happy FUNNY books, read the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich.  It is great!!  It really will make you laugh out loud.

maybe they play freeze tag.

hmm...I'm trying to think of some happy books for you to read GMB.  I can't think of any off the top of my head, because I usually read not so happy books.  How about that series with that book something borrowed something blue?  Does anyone know what I'm talking about.  It has babies in it.  There's some unhappy relationship stuff but overall I think it's supposed to be an uplifting series of stories.

Oh and never say never, those swimmers can have quite the life span.  I was thinking about that this morning.  What do you suppose those little guys do while they wait for an egg to show up?  I imagined two little sperm sitting at a table playing cards :0

Yes, as Dani would say, I am a dork!

Oh sweety, don't read that stuff during TTC!  I agree with everyone else.  It's such an extrodinary rare occurance due to all the medical advances, that I wouldn't give it a second thought.

When I had my BFP, I wouldn't even read VC Andrews because I didn't want that bad juju in my head :)

I agree with the other 2...it happens so rarely now that it shouldn't even cross any of our minds. Looks like we're only 1 day apart on our cycles this month :D I'm sending you lots of SSBD!!

DH and I were driving the other day and on the back of a SUV there was decal saying "In memory of my wife.... " with DOB and then death date and then "in memory of my daughter..." with only one date that was the same as the mothers death date. I said to DH that looks like they both died when she was delivering
I said to DH that I can imagine that happening these days!

To answer your question... Mikaleen is right!!!!!! I am sure it can still happen but not something that I would worry about. compared to what the death rate at delivery used to be years ago it cant be anything the same now! you never hear about it these days because medicine os so advanced compared to what it used to be.

and as Mikaleen said.. dont read that stuff when you are TTC or preggers!!!!!

Isn't it funny how love stories always have tragedy in them! Like Mikaleen said, it is very rare so try not to think about it. I also wish you luck in your tww.

AAH! DON'T READ STUFF LIKE THAT WHEN YOU ARE PG OR TTC!!!!  Did it take place in the past?  Did she give birth at home with no medical intervention after 9 months of no pre-natal care?  Was it some kind of sad depressing love story that embelishes everything so we cry at the end?

I can't lie and say no, it never happens, but nowadays with all the care and medical advances and u/s and hospital births it's really very very rare.  Something has to go drastically wrong.  With the amount of babies born each day, it is not something high on the list of things to worry about.

Relax, good luck in your tww, and READ HAPPY BOOKS!!!
