Hi. Shell is right. Have regular blood work done, and eventually a test to see if you've developed antigens to MS, which are not dangerous in themselves, but which would make the Avonex ineffective.
Other than these, Avonex is quite safe. I'm so glad to find at least one person who doesn't get much in the way of side effects. These are easily manageable for most, though, so keep on doing what you can against this blasted disease.

Hi Rondi,
Dr. should order labs for you that include WBC, liver enzymes and thyroid. They are the top three that are typically checked to make sure the med in not affecting those areas.
Glad to hear you are doing well on the Avonex. Even the small side affects tend to decrease over time.
You have a her? Here in NJ? OH, I'd like to chat w/you!
ttys,

Hi Starryeyes, thanks for the email/info. I think the Avonex is working well but not totally sure. Dr. needs to compare my recent mri with the 2 previous. It's strange that I don't seem to have any trouble with the Avonex. I'm so lucky. I exercise regularly, eat healthy, & see a chiropractor. I believe this all helps. Any kind of side-effect I get is so nothing really (feeling cold on & off all the time & slightly sore all over body). I never get any of the bad flu-like symptoms. My concern is what the med. is doing to my body in the long run. I can't seem to find any info. about the long-term effects. It's 1 of the questions for me to ask the dr. tomorrow. Hope you are doing well. Rondi
Hey Rondi- I researched all the medications before I was dx. My neuro put me on Copaxone which is sposed to have great results. I have friends who were on Avonex but switched due to side effects such as flu symptoms for 2 days following the injection. Not sure how you are doing on it. I hope well. Good luck with your appt. Let us know how it goes!
Hugs,
Starryeyes
