Blood calcium level high

I went to my inturnest.  she did the usual blood work and called to tell me that my calcium level was high and that I needed twomore blood tests.  I went to the hospital to have them done.  i called the office today, they said that the results should be in later today.  Noone ever called to give them to me and the doc is not in clinic until Monday.  I think that it is the 5K iu of D that my MS doc told me to take.  There are only a few reasons that your blood calcium is too high:  Overdose of vit D, parathyroid, and it gets worse from there.  I HATE waiting!!!!!!

Ok, docks office caloled this morning at 8:25.  The PTH level and the Ionized calcium level were both normal!  Not shure how the PTH can be normal with the syrum calcium high, but ok.  I guess she will check it again in 6 mo.

I am not sure about the level....  The nurse just told me that it was high and to go to the hospital to have two more blood tests.  Most of the symptoms mimic MS.. You know, fatigue, inability to sleep, belly ache.  I have IBS erally bad too, so I just dismissed the belly ache as that.  The stiff muscles I thought were MS...

I hope they call this morning.  I don't want to call them again; you know, if the ladies at the front desk think that you are a pest, they are less likely to help you in the future.

oh not the type of thing you want to hear on a Friday and then wait all weekend.  How high was the calcium?  Were you feeling sick from it?  I've had mine go pretty high (myeloma causes it) and  I felt pretty sick to my stomach, and could not eat much etc.

Hoping you get good news at an appropriate time.  They usually catch me in the restroom or while driving way too fast on I10!  :-)

Sure, since neither of us has a choice anyway.  I sure wouldn't mind interrupting quiet Saturday evening on-call plans if I thought it would get me anything better in the future.  I remember when my doctors actually cared about me as a person.  Apparently now-a-days they are guaranteed to be so busy they don't even bother to book return appointments for follow-up care.  I guess the health care insurance crisis isn't as bad as I was led to believe.

Sorry for the nastiness.  I try to zip it when I'm this frustrated.  I think I was actually nicer on the steroids.

Yes, I'll wait until Monday.  I'm sure they will call when I'm visiting the dentist in the morning and then try again in the afternoon when I have appointments with the physiatrist and his myofacial massage specialist.  Yup, works for me.

I'm holding good thoughts that it will be good news with simple solutions for both of us.

I'm right next to you in line.  I called in about 3:45 and was told by the med tech that she had a discussion with the doctor just 30 minutes before about why the lab results seemed so incomplete.  She promised to check with the lab and doc again and call me back before the end of today with their game plan.

It's 6:30 now.  No results.  No meds.  No consult.  No plan.  I've seen the docs in this group since 1980.  I think I'm done now.

Sorry opie.  Get that speed dial set up for Monday morning!!

I called at lunch.  They said that the results were in and that a nurse would have to call me back.  They took down my contact info, and that was it.  It is now 5:17 central and no call!!!!!  I guess the results came in late in the day yesterday and the doc has not seen them.  She is off on Fridays.  UGGGGG!

I think that I am going to call in a few minutes.  I know that the nurst practitioner is in on Fridays.  Maybe they will tell me.  Or, I could call the hospital, I guess.  I just don't want to worry them andmake them think I am OCD or crazy... ;-)

Do you know what additonal tests were ordered?  Any idea how high the calcium was?  Any chance they will give you the results today without your doc being in?  Can you call the office and ask, "Someone would call and let me know if I REALLY needed to worry about these results over the weekend, RIGHT???"

Not that any of that matters much.  I just want you to know someone is here waiting with you.  Nothing makes the waiting easier but I do think you are likely right that this is connected to the high dose vitamin D, or some summer dehydration.

Life sure is a roller coaster, eh?  So people pay to get this kind of lump in the throat, knot in the stomach, floor falling out from under you experience?  I can't imagine being that bored!!

I'm waiting for some lab work too but I'm angry more than worried.  Wondering how these doc make us wait for so much so often and then one threatened not to see me a couple weeks ago because my ride got me there 10 minutes late!  Grrrrr.

Good luck.  Try to relax.  Stay cool and hydrate.
