Bravo pH test

Hi all, you may have caught in my journal that the GI doc recommends the pH monitoring test to check for acid reflux.  I don't have a problem with the test but my friend Sarah'sMom raised objections based on her really awful experience.  So off I went researching more about this procedure - I have to say I really don't have a concern but I did find one major red flag that all of us need to be aware of -

You cannot have an MRI within 30 days of this procedure because the capsule that is implanted has a magnet in it.....I assume the 30 days is to guarantee that the capsule has been totally passed by the digestive system.

I'm so glad I looked into the test, thanks to Sarah'sMom, because my next MRI is scheduled for late December. The MRI question did not come up with my GI doc at all - why would it?  Again another example of the patients doing the doctor's work!

Disgruntled,
Lulu

Everything I find including the Medtronic webiste says you can't do an MRI within 30 days so I think my Bravo will have to be rescheduled. I really wanted to get it done under this calendar year of benefits for my insurance.

Perhaps I can get my MRI bumped up from Dec. 29 to an earlier date and still slide this in before the 1st of 2009.

I'm sure you will not encounter the problems I did with the BRAVO study.  The statistics are certainly in your favor.  I

hope they will learn something from your results that will help you.  And, thanks for the research about the waiting period for an MRI.  That is helpful information for us.
