Color Saturation

I went to the eye doc yesterday - I was very suprised to learn I have lost some of the color saturation (I think that's what she called it) in my right eye.  I passed the color blindness test fine, but then she had me look at a deep red item.  Looked deep red with my left eye, but with my right eye it was somewhat paler, and more of an orangey red, if that makes sense.  Different.

Has anyone else here had that?  She said it was something consistent with MS.  I'm assuming it won't go away, but will it continue to get worse?  She said the portion of my optic nerves that she could see looked good, but that she wants me to get an extended visual field test, (Not the quickie one you sometimes get - I guess it will take 8 or 10 minutes on each side) to be sure I haven't lost some areas of peripheral vision on the right, because of another test she did.  She's great, and was very thorough when I told her about my recent diagnosis - did a few more tests than usual.

BTW, got my spinal tap results on Wed.  The neuro said it was "consistent with MS"and also that it "ruled out any other causes."  He said it "Reinforces that we need to be treating you aggressively."  That always kind of gives me the willies... whenever we talk about treatment, he mentions the need to treat me aggressively.  After 25 years in the medical field, I know when they repeatedly say something in a certain way, there's usually a reason...
(Right, Quix ;-) ???  LOL!  Time will tell....

So there went my last chance that this was all a big mistake or a big misunderstanding....  Time to start to fully wrap my head around all this, and to believe it is really REAL I guess... :)  I guess deep down I was still hoping he was wrong, lol.    Thank God for all of you here.... I have learned so much and gotten so much support thru all this!  Let me know if any of you have had the color thing....

Thanks!

Jen: I posted yesterday to you, who knows where it went?? LOL.  So you noticed it on your own?  I had no clue there was a difference till she did the red test with me.  I can understand you not knowing which eye sees the right colors...the only reason I know is cause she told me..:)

Sally:  From what my eye doc said, it is usually more common to affect the red family.  She wasn't freaked out about it or anything, but made notes so we can compare time to time to see if it gets worse.  She said it's a common thing in MS and that's whey she tested it.  Normally, she doesn't.  But she was happy the optic nerves themselves looked good - at least what she could see of them.  Now we'll see if I have any visual field loss when I go the other test on the 22nd.

Have a good one you guys, and thanks for sharing your experiences with me.  This group is great!!

Hi,

yes.  I get this too.  There is definite difference in color vision between each eyes, seems to affect pinks for me.  Also difference in light dark adaptation between eyes.  No-one yet has seemed to think that this has any significance.

Yup, I get the color difference thing too.  One of the first 'weird' things I noticed, even before the cognitive problems and the numbness.  For some reason, i can really tell when looking at gray asphalt - the asphalt is noticeably greener out of my right eye.

Problem I have is, which is the right information?  Is the asphalt the color that I'm getting from my left eye, or my right?

Thanks...it's nice to finally have some energy again, and to be able to participate..:)  And I look forward to our epic messages, too!

Yeah, I wish the results of the LP had been different, but I'm very fortunate to have a good neuro - so I'm grateful for that.  Now we go forward from here...

Talk to ya soon.....

Good to see you on the forum!  (Although I do look forward to our epic messages!)

It is deflating to hear about your exam.  Sorry.  Yes, this does sound like it's nailed, for sure.  At last.  You've got a fantastic neuro.

Wish the news had been better.  I hope there IS room for improvement for your color saturation.  I really have no clue.

Take care!  See you in the Inbox!

Hiya!  How have you been?  PM me if you get a chance, OK?  We need to catch up... :)  I have had a tough ride for a while, but have been doing better lately - OK, the past couple of days, lol!  But it's still encouraging......I've been away from the forum for so long it seems...

Thanks for the info.  I did OK on the red and green color blind test, although the colors were brighter and sharper with my left eye.  But I could distinguish between them all, even on the right.  Didn't notice the big difference till we did the test with the deep red.  The other differences were more subtle and I figured it was just me, lol.

Hugs back to you... :)

So good to see you post.  You have been missed.

I am sorry that everything seems to be pointing to MS.  It does sound like it's time to "wrap" around the idea of coming to terms with the diagnosis of MS.

In someone with MS, they have trouble with red and green.  If you are shown a "picture" composed of red and green spots and asked if you can see the "picture" contained within these spots....if you can't see the picture, you are said to have color distortion.  This is very common in someone with MS.  We can't see the picture contained within those green and red spots.  This being all green and red dots.  No other colors.

I flunked this test big time, when I was first going through my diagnosis.  My then Neuro said this was very common in someone with MS.

Please keep us informed about your progress.  You know that we are here for you, anytime you need us.  We have missed you Rita.

Big Hugs,
Heather
