DRUG COST - Assistance Programs

One of the articles in the past  MS Quarterly Reviews listed some great sources of assistance for drug costs to people living with MS.  This information is worth sharing again and again. We know the cost of treating MS is expensive in so many ways.

Here is a the short list of ways you can make the drugs affordable - yes it takes effort on our parts to do this, but it is financially worth it–

Needy Meds
www.needymeds.org

Discount card program that can cut 80% off the cost of RX and OTC drugs.  Interesting, they also cover medications for pets.

From the MS page you can see a list of commonly used drugs, click on that, and it spells out the assistance programs available.

The MS Society has a specific web page with Needy Meds - through here you can also find clinics for the treatment of MS that will do it on a sliding scale on ability to pay.

The Partnership for Prescriptions Assistance (PPA)
www.pparx.org
1.888 4PPA-NOW

www.phrma.org/about_phrma  is part of their group and you can click on PATIENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS there

National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD)
www.rarediseases.org/programs/medication

NORD is for uninsured and underinsured individuals and really does help with the cost.  They are funded primarily from the pharmaceutical companies.

Thanks so much for this information. My husband will not have a job after August, and that also means no health insurance. Rebif is no problem as they have a wonderful program to help out financially. However, I have been trying to figure out how to afford my other meds. So this post was rather timely for me. I have already gone to the websites that you mentioned above. Once again, thanks for this information!

The message here is don't give up on looking for help and don't stop taking those drugs that can help because there has to be some group/org/company available to help. Or at least sell the RX at a reasonable price.
