Do you ever see a scurrying brown mouse out of the corner of your eye?

Seven years ago, near the beginning of this forum, someone started a thread talking about seeing tings that weren't there out of the corner of her eye.  I was amazed at how many people experienced this phenomenon.  The thread grew really long.  I felt left out because I had never experienced it.  Well, a few months ago it began happening to me.  I see something move quickly at the very periphery of my right eye - always the right eye - and look quickly over to see nothing.  It is maddening and probably the equivalent of  a visual paresthesia.   I now have the "scurrying mouse" syndrome.  Any of you?

For those who have known me here, you know that I have inadvertent and unusual interactions with animals and that my experiences with mice had always in the past been associated with the epic floods of incontinence.  Since Botox put a glorious end to those, I have allowed into the ranks of PETA (No....not People Eating Tasty Animals, silly!)   But the Scurrying Mouse Syndrome has given me a couple of weird incidents.

Last fall I saw something move out the corner of my right eye and looked over to see my big, Maine Coon lummox of a cat playing with a brownish, fallen maple leaf.  We had them all over the yard.  A few minutes later I saw it move again.  This time Tony the Terrible wasn't close.  I looked again, and the leaf appeared to move on its own.  Did it have the mystery scurrying mouse under it?   As I watched the points of the leaf appeared to make it walk.  What the...?

I got out of my recliner and walked over to this animated piece of yard debris.  As it came into focus I saw the shimmering, shining fur of a little bat.  Poor thing.  Scooping it up between the pages of a magazine I opened the front door, gave a flip and it flew away.  It was so cool!  Does it count as a side effect of MS when it is real?

The next incident happened while in the bathroom taking care of business.  I again saw a flash of something black over in the sink out of the corner of my right eye.  Looked over (can anyone help from looking over?) and nothing was there - same as always.  It happened two more times - seemed very real.  Finally, I just watched.  As I quietly gazed wondering about this weird disease, I saw the little head of a garter snake poke out of the overflow hole in the front of the sink.   Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!!?  It's tiny, split tongue was darting out, checking for danger.  I saw in this the handiwork of  Clyde, our major league snake-hunter who has been known to bring little garter and grass snakes into the bathtub to watch as they thrash around not being able to get any traction.  She's easy to amuse, little devil.

So we had to grab the poor little guy's head and gently wrangle him out of the overflow hole.  He really didn't want to  come out.  He was carried out  to the cool garden and let go.  I'm sure I've thrown him out several times since.

Moral of the story?  Check out all odd occurrences.  That sensation of a rock in your shoe might really be a rock in your shoe.  So do any of you have mystical animals visible only out of the corner of your eye?

Quix, I think I was the person who posted that question. I *still* have that phenomenon every once in awhile.

You all make me smile :)

That being said; Yes, I too have little black flashes of things "running" in my left peripheral vision I turn to look and most of the time nothing is there. Im a little envious that you get real bats and snakes Qwix, lol! I am seriously arachnophobic so most of the time I think it's a big knarly spider. My dear and loving friends do NOT help by placing fake spiders around my office for a good laugh; good thing I am a good sport, lol!  And no, we really can't help looking :)

Thank you for the smiles :)

My visual imaginaria started out as white light floaties. They would appear slightly above my sight midline, directly in front of me. Now they have morphed into dark brown scurring things in the lower left section of my peripheral vision.

I have 2 cats, both with dark brown tails. about 25% of the time, the scurrying brown thing is attached to one of them :-)

Hehe! I didn't think I'd be able to laugh today, but then I read this. Thank you. :)

I've seen flashes of black things for a long time now. Many times I've reached down to pet my black cat because I think I see her, but I end up petting air or the carpet. I've also opened the door to the bathroom and yelped because I saw something black run across my feet, but I look closer and it's just a fuzzy being pushed by the air.

Well, I frequently see something out of the side of my eye but never mystical animals :)

Mine seems more like a flash of light and is always on my left.  Most of my problems are left sided.

If I start seeing snakes I may have to be committed.
