Doctors make mistakes

I found a great article in AARP magazine (my roommate gets it) about mistakes doctors make, why they make them, and how to help yourself avoid these mistakes.

All of us in limboland should be able to relate, and feel a little good that there is such an article in a national magazine.  I hope you'll take the time to read it, and enjoy it as much as I did!

I'm a very few years away from getting AARP in the mail.  My roommate's last name is Spanish, so she also gets the Spanish edition, lol.

I've found a lot of good articles in the magazine (not the Spanish edition, I could only pick out a word here and there in it, ha ha).

take care,

Kathy

Thanks Kathy for the link.... I will admit I do get AARP's magazine and am a card carrying member :-)  They have great health resources and you don't have to be 50+ to read them online.

Be well,

BINGO!!!

This short article is excellent.  Those three questions should help redirect the docs that really care.  I disagree with the statement that "All doctors want the best for their patients."  You would think so, but it is clear to me that some docs  1) want to get some patients out of their offices, 2) enjoy insulting patients, 3) will be immediately offended by these questions, and 4) couldn't ever imagine that their first impressions aren't correct.

Still, those excellent three questions will help keep the good docs on target and will tell you which doctors to RUN from.

This article will become part of a HP!

Thank you.

The article was written by Dr. Groopman. If you haven't read his book "How Doctor's Think" then I would highly suggest it.  What I learned from reading this book helped me tremendously in understanding how to talk to doctor's and not get brushed off.

This is a good article.  I wonder how much sooner I would have been diagnosed if I new to ask the suggested questions.

Hi

What an interesting article.

The press over here has recently addressed this due to a high profile case of misdiagnosis. The fact is people *know* their own bodies and as such know when something is seriously wrong despite doctor's protestations to the contrary.

Thanks for posting the link.

Alice

Thanks for the link.  I think I spend too much time worrying about what doctors are going to think about me.  Scrutiny is a two-way street, a particularly helpful reminder for those of us stuck on the S.S. Limbo and it's ever-extended cruise.

OK, not sure where the boat metaphor is coming from?  You shouldn't feed Gremlins after midnight, and I shouldn't post at 3 AM.  Back to bed for me!
