I am guessing that most MSers have their down days. I sure do. On the whole I'm not depressed, but I can understand how others could slip into a dark place for a prolonged period, which I think is pretty much the medical definition of depression.
Circumstances can certainly lead to depression, and MSers can and do have lots of negative circumstances. Add these to physical changes in the brain as the result of MS lesions and it's no wonder that about 50% of MSers experience clinical depression at some point or other.
To my knowledge, these blood tests are the first objective tests in this area, and if they can also predict what type of treatment would most benefit the individual, that's marvelous. I only hope all this comes to fruition without the usual delay of years and years.
