Drug assistance programs

There are so many drug assistance programs out there for us in the US who are not on medicare/medicaid or live in Massachussetts.  I'm thinking it might be helpful to start a thread of some of these so everyone is taking full advantage of the drug companies' generosity.  Ok, you know I'm being facetious with that comment - they want us to take their drug and are bribing us to do so by helping with the copay.

The copay is such a small part of the cost - that balance is billed to our insurance companies for full payment.

Put your thinking caps on, and help us to compile a list of active co-pay programs to share.

You've very likely already looked into this.  https://www.restasis.com/Savings-And-Support

They're offering 90 days free and $20/month discount if I read that right.  Maybe if you contact them directly there are special prices and discounts.

Best to you xx

Hi......by chance, can you help me find restasis cheaper than the $484. 00 per month that I would have to pay with my insurance? Any information that you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Good morning.

Johnson & Johnson offers assistance for people using their Duragesic pain patch.  It pays 100% of the cost for one year.  The only requirement is that the patient must use the brand name, not a generic.

I found out recently the huge difference between the generic and brand name.  The generic does not begin to give the relief to match Duragesic.

Johnson & Johnson sent me an "insurance" card that I present to the pharmacy filling the prescription.  There is no particular pharmacy that must be used.

I am very grateful for this assistance program.  My current health insurance will only pay for the generic.  The insurance coverage I had at the time I came into the assistance program made me aware of it.  They had the paperwork that needed to filled out, and sent it in for me.  They handled everything concerning it, and accomplished it all in only a few days.  I am not sure if that is the rule or exception, but it was wonderful to have that kind of advocacy.

Also this week I got another offer - this one is for the Restasis eye drops that I use for  chronic dry eye. I think several of us here also use this drug.

They issue a VISA debit card and load money on it that is used at your pharmacy or mail order company.  It pays $25 for the first rx, and $15 for the next 5 and then gives you the 7th rx free.  It has similar savings for mail order 90 day supplies.

And on top of the money, they issue gift cards to movie theaters and book stores after so many refills.

You can sign up for this package at restasis.com

A followup to this thread - last week while waiting to see my urogyno, the Pfizer rep came in and we started talking about these rebate/assistance programs.  I asked her why they have become so prevalent in the last year or so.

According to her, the drug mfgs. have always rebated this money out of their profits, but they gave it to the insurance companies, with the intent it would help to contain costs for the insured patient.

The insurance companies, she said, instead of sharing it with the patients, used that money for their own company needs.  And to top it off, the insurance companies in recent years have been pushing generic drugs over the name brands.

She said that in response to all this, the industry has redirected the money directlly to the patient and cut out the subsidies to the insurance companies.

This made my head spin - how about yours'?
