Drunk or High Feeling
Since yesterday I've been getting this feeling that I've had a bit to drink or I'm high...but I'm not. I'm stumbling around here and there, my words slur occasionally, losing train of thought, when I close my eyes the room spins, if i turn too fast the room spins, the whole nine yards. I thought at first I was just tired. So, I got a good night's sleep and I woke up yesterday and it was worse. All day long and still now I feel like I've had a few too many.

Hi, not officially diagnosed but neurologist says I do have TN. My entire right side is affected. When it hits, all of my teeth on the right side, upper and lower, feel like they are infected and hurt like crazy. I went to the dentist in February and all he found is a small cavity, which he filled. I now believe that in the past I have had unnecessary dental work donei prior because of this.
I have experienced the TN off and on a few times since February and the tooth pain has gone away. The smallest thing, such as cold air, can trigger it. It lasts a few hours, maybe a day or two, and then goes away, which wouldin rretrospect indicate there was nothing wrong with my teeth. I also periodically have stabbing pain in my cheek, numbness on the right side of my nose that feels like novocane is wearing off, and have that feeling inside my mouth as well.
Regardless of whether it is TN or true tooth pain, I know it is awful and hope you get the appropriate treatment aand relief soon.

I have experienced the TN off and on a few times since February and the tooth pain has gone away. The smallest thing, such as cold air, can trigger it. It lasts a few hours, maybe a day or two, and then goes away, which wouldin rretrospect indicate there was nothing wrong with my teeth. If you really sure you have an abscessed tooth/teeth then that probably is the priority at the moment, though i'm curious did they rx antibiotics to fight the infection, if they didn't I think i'd be getting a script from a GP, if you've got an infection its not going to wait until May!
TN is commonly mistaken for a bad tooth or an ear infection, its described as suicide pain so it can get pretty painful. When it hits I feel pain in the left side hinge area of my jaw, so the area just below the ear and running along the lower half of my jaw but I do experience it in both sides. The right side is no where near as painful as the left, never has been in 20+ years and its the left side that i have pins and needles and occasional numbness so the left gets all my attention lol.
I've not heard that 'tooth abscesses' was a common issue for people with MS, i've been interested in anything orally related since I had a really bad abscess in the roof of my mouth that had to be drained and coincidentally then started getting a lot of mouth ulcers, one trigger I know for me is comically, tooth paste lol so if you can recall what you read i'd love it if you could let me know where to find it :o)
TN has nothing to do with problem teeth but it can actually feel like a tooth or ear problem because of the Trigeminal nerves mainly run through that area. There is a lot online about it, this is something very basic and easy to understand if you want to get an idea of TN.

Just went through that... Had a flare up that lasted 2 weeks and ended thanksgiving day. Mine was caused by drinking to much redbull and then stopping completely wich my neuro said my flare up more an likey is srom caffiene withdrawal and to stay strong and believe it will go away and it will pass.
Vertigo he said it sounds like, for the room was spinning, if i turned my head one way and turned it back every like moved and like took a few seconds for everything to stay in place again. i Was definalty wobbly and off balanced due to the constant vertigo. And smoking you can feel makes it worse. Also i heavey feeling and kind of like a fake feeling that everything is not real in a way. That also goes with the anxiety i was having from vertigo. I literally layed down for 2 weeks, tried my hardest to stay positive even tho the feeling of it is one you cant explain..( ddriving was defintly not an option since first i felt drunk 24/7 and second to turn my head or look at the side morror was impossible cuz when i turned my head back everything was just more dizzy and off like blur.
( also about the slurred words..same thing to me... regularily with the vertigo and would get worse if i went our or around different people cuz id get anxiety about them seeing me sick in which case made more so nervouse that my words got even worse and could barely speak a sentence w/o my voice shaking sluring and losiing the words in my mind.
Give it time, and it will pass, rest as much as you can. try not to stress or get depressed or get anxiety. I got anxiety from it made it much worse. But it will pass and hope you get better soon. Its such a horrible feeling to feel especially when you cant even explain it to ther people. Stay positive and God Bless

Trigeminal neuralgia (usually abbreviated as TN) is pain along the VI (6th) cranial nerve. This connects to the chin, tip of the nose, and along the cheek. It can be quite painful. Many people get their teeth worked on because they think something's wrong, when it turns out to be TN.
I went to the ER last night and I do have abscessed teeth. Not just one. :/ I've read that it's pretty common for people with MS to get abscesses and I know it can be dangerous. That's all I really know. The ER doc took pretty good care of me and now I just have to wait to get this darned tooth pulled. Next available dentist appointment isn't until May 2nd. Geesh.

An abcessed tooth could easily be the culprit for a flare. Trigeminal neuralgia could be a part of a flare, as well. I'm glad you're having a repeat MRI. You should try to get in to your neuro before another month, though. Just sayin'!
Are you sure that it's an abscessed tooth? Could be trigeminal neuralgia causing your tooth to hurt.
I have another MRI in a week or so and I see my neuro next month. I had a really good visit last week but he seemed concerned that things are progressing. That's why he ordered me a new MRI even though I just had one a couple months ago. Legs go numb and now this. Also, I think I have an abscessed tooth that's been killing me for a long time now and haven't been able to find a dentist for years.
So, I don't know if any of these are tying into each other. I'm actually heading up to the ER now to see if there's anything I can do before this gets real bad. I even get the sick feeling and can't stand still. I was standing talking to my mother in law and almost fell backward from losing my balance. I'll update you. Thanks guys.

Been there, done that, will probably happen again today! I've had on and off vertigo/dizziness since my diagnosis, and the sensation is similar to being drunk. Definitely call your neuro, but it could be a pseudoflare brought on by a fever or allergies.
yep, not sure what to call it but I get it. Might give our favorite neuro a call and let them know, just to document it. Keep us posted
