Until sometime in 2007, I prepared for injections by taking a rubber cap off the prefilled syringe end and placing a needle over that end. Avonex then started shipping prefilled syringes with a luer lock device; I break a cap off the end and then sort of screw the needle on.
I’ve uploaded a photo to my profile page displaying the old and the newer syringe side by side. The newer one has the white collar. The Avogrips also are pictured. The newer one (grayish) is slightly shorter than the old one (purple)., as well as the old Avogrip and newer Avogrip side-by-side. Although the old Avogrip does not fit the newer syringe, the newer Avogrip does fit on the old syringe.
Yes, perhaps I had too much time on my hands today … ;-)
Thanks a million! How do I send a PM? (Is this "private message"?) I use a computer all day at work but not often on social media.
I have an extra unopened Avogrip, and I’ll send it to whatever address (you, your friend, your employer, whoever) send me in a PM.
I completely understand the FDA rationale for not selling or giving away drugs or medical devices. I would not want to use Avonex that someone sent me, because I wouldn’t know if it had gone unrefrigerated or was contaminated or counterfeit. I wouldn’t want to use a second-hand autoinjector because I wouldn’t know if the mechanism was operating properly.
From the FDA website: “Medical devices range from simple tongue depressors and bedpans to complex programmable pacemakers with micro-chip technology and laser surgical devices.” I’m not offering anyone a pacemaker, and I don’t have any bedpans, but if someone needs a tongue depressor or an Avogrip, website moderators just need to look the other way at times, just like they do when users regularly give inaccurate information or try to provide medical advice. The Avogrip is a fairly innocuous piece of plastic, and it may not even fall under the broad brush painted by about.com, which is really not a good source for anything.
I am "zeldaz". Can you help me get an Avogrip? I am not interested in switching to the Avonex pen at this time. Thanks!
Got it. Did anyone mention to him/her about the new(ish) Avonex pen? It's a little more involved and not as simple as the grip, but I'd bet its introduction and development has something to do with the grips not being available from Biogen anymore. Just spit-balling other options as finding the grips will prove tricky. The pen was developed for ease of use and standardisation of dosage, so it might be just the ticket.
The mods were just likely trying to keep any legal issues at bay. Trading in things that come with a prescription (medical devices included) is a fast ticket to a fine the site might go bankrupt under or lawsuits if they were the conduit through which a counterfeit product was sold.
"It is illegal to sell, give away, or trade prescription drugs and medical devices over the Internet or through other means of advertising or private distribution. Yes, people do it, but they are breaking the law."
