Feet pain?!?!

Hey all,

Newbie here and have a question.  I have this awful feet pain/burning since Thanksgiving day.  That was a horrible day.  It feels as though I'm walking on rocks and hurt to touch them at times.  Makes it difficult to get anything done.  I saw the neuro about it and she said that it was probably nerve, switched me to lyrica and I am slowly increasing it.  I haven't had any benefit from lyrica, actually I think my IQ dropped 50 points, (LOL).  Just wondering if any of you have this problem and how you handle it with everyday life.  I have kids and a house to keep and shopping to do, etc etc.  I can't just sit here and I do force myself to do things and try to "grin and bear it" but it makes the pain that much worse....just curious...
Thanks,
MostlyShell

Not to knock your remedy, bearsmum!  But capsicum has been used for patent medicines for a very long time, and it has shown to have only a placebo effect.  People perceive the warmth as soothing, when in reality the capsicum is just irritating the skin.

There is also conflicting evidence as to whether glucosamine is effective for helping arthritis.  Randomized, double-blind placebo-controlled trials have shown that glucosamine sulfate is no better than placebo in reducing the symptoms of hip osteoarthritis.

If you decide you'd like to try glucosamine, be aware that it's usually made from shellfish, and so people with shellfish allergies should avoid it.

Hi how are you going
I too suffer severely from the burning/aching legs and feet.  I tried all the creams for muscle pains etc and finally I went to my local chemist and asked the lady for any advice.  I explained that I was recently diagnosed with Mitochondrial Cytopathy and explained about the burning legs and that I have tried everything else to no avail.  She was telling me that her hubby has polio and both her daughters have rhumatic fever and they all got great relief from a product called Glucocosomine Rapid.  Well, it worked wonders.  One of the main ingredients is Capsicum, believe it or not.  I absolutely swear by it for helping with the burning and aching in the legs and feet and it does not feel hot, like some creams do, only on very sensitive areas like the neck.

Hope this helps you and best of luck

I had such severe foot pain that I had problems walking for a while.  It felt like I was walking on rocks.  It turns out that my feet were just spastic in the bottoms - one was the arch of the foot, and the other was the outside.  Hubby pounded on them for me, which helped a lot, but really it just took time for the problem to go away.  About four weeks, I think, although it felt longer.

Please see our Health Pages. particularly about nerve pain and paresthesias. There's lots of good info there.

Regarding meds for this, PainDoc tells us to build the dose slowly. Many have given up on a med such as Lyrica because it either doesn't help or has too many side effects. The answer is often to keep trying, very slowly. I am one of the lucky ones who got relief right away (though I was spaced out for 2 days first).

Tylenol, etc., will not work for neuropathic pain such as burning. Those meds are made for real injuries, or pain from the usual causes, such as headache. Once again, the Health Pages provide a full explanation of this.

Hello there,
I get leg pains too.  It's not so bad usually but I have had a pretty bad case of it the past three days.  I know I have been stressed and I also didn't rest enough and that doesn't help with the pain.  I am not on any medications for MS (I chose not to for now) and I just take Tylonol for the pain and it works.  It doesn't take it all away but it takes the edge off the pain.  I get that horrible burning sensation and I know how you feel.  It does hurt even if you touch it softly.  I know it's hard to rest and take it easy with kids around but you have to.  Resting helps.  When I get the leg pains, I lay down and put a blanket around my leg.  Sometimes it goes away quickly, sometimes, it takes days for the pain to go away.  I know I wasn't much help but I just wanted to tell you that I feel for you.  I am sorry and I hope you feel better soon.  Please try and rest.
